Re: Brexit Thread
Been saying this for a long time. Left-wing parties in the US and Europe are going to have to come to terms with the fact that if they want to win they have to bring in people who don't think multiculturalism is the greatest thing for civilization since the Magna Carta.

England/Wales too advantage of all the economic benefits of free trade and a National Healthcare System and decided to throw it all away for the next generation.
Can't blame Scots and Irish for wanting to end the UK.
And yes, the liberal parties in the US which poll higher than ever for literally every person under 40 and have begun to sweep conservatives out of offices in local and state elections have to come to terms.

But statistics aren't on the side of the pro-Brexit movement. They'll die off eventually. 70% of millennials and more than that for Gen Z want to stay in the EU. Once again though, older people took advantage and pulled up the ladder after years of benefiting from the partnership. What a sh*tty generation.

Hey Trip, how do you think with the broad support for policies like raising the minimum wage and medicare for all (under certain conditions) that a guy like Trump can still win?∞∞∞ wrote:Or just wait until the older f*cks die off and rejoin the EU.Pwns wrote:Been saying this for a long time. He wins because Democrats would rather complain about a lack of female CEOs, compare the police to the KKK, protect the right of predators to go into the women's bathroom, and call people concerned about migration racist than stick to a purely populist message. That crap isn't going to sell well to the white working class regardless of what generation they're in, and a lot of that isn't what poor black voters care about, either (see the lack of traction candidates blathering about reparations get with black voters).

What radical changes? Stronger environmental policies, re-routing funds to healthcare/education/welfare instead of business/military, and taxing wealthier corporations/individuals at higher rates is not radical.
In fact, it's common-sense economics and the whole point of Government by the People is for a People to protect and take care of itself.

No, Trump wins because we literally have one of the worst election and governmental systems in the Western world. Electoral college, gerrymandering, voter suppression...the whole way we do things has become antiquated and completely flawed for the rapid changes and diverse societies of the 21st century.Pwns wrote:e wins because Democrats would rather complain about a lack of female CEOs, compare the police to the KKK, protect the right of predators to go into the women's bathroom, and call people concerned about migration racist than stick to a purely populist message. You can't complain about the resistance Trump gets when not only is he disliked by the majority of people, but the majority of people didn't even vote for him. It's hard to be President when you have no mandate.
We're simply so stuck in our ways and traditions that we can barely acknowledge...let alone adopt...the improved systems others Western nations have built (from our own).

I think all of you are making good points here. As for Brexit, autonomy has to be a huge selling point. What’s also interesting is that Corbin’s demise was partially blamed on ties to anti-semitism.

I say if we're going to complain about the odd conversion factors in the US system then we might as well change to a clock with the day divided into 10 hours and every hour into 100 minutes, but of course it's easier to support these changes when it's not you that has to adapt.93henfan wrote:I do think we should get rid of pennies and adopt the metric system.

That's interesting considering the many similarities between Boomers and Millennials. Boomers were the hippies protesting the Vietnam War before they traded in their beads and idealism for Beemers and materialism. I expect the Millennials to do something similar.∞∞∞ wrote:No, it was the choice of the majority. I don't respect it, but it is what it is.CID1990 wrote:

Most people start out more liberal and become more conservative as they see how much the government takes from their paychecks and how inefficient they are with the money they take.

Trip hypocritically claims to be a majoritarian (Electoral College bad!), but only when it suits his purposes (disregard success of conservative party that wins big outright majority of seats, and leftist party takes smallest share since 1935). Yeah, Boomers and historically illiterate Millennials are exactly alike.
