I think Democrats did what they needed to do. Whether it means they increased enthusiasm among Trump cult nut jobs or not, they had to show their own people that they would fight in order to maintain their own side's motivation.
We'll see how it works out.

Trump announces Brett Kavanaugh as his 2nd SCOTUS nominee.
Thinking that the Democrats did what they needed to do is absurd. Holding the letter fromDr Ford back through the investigation process of Judge Kavanaugh almost led to her allegations not being investigated and hampered her right to be heard.JohnStOnge wrote:I think Democrats did what they needed to do. Please explain how Cory Bookers speech was what any legislators need to do. The tenor of the opposition from the Democrats was way over the line. Chasing Senators down the hall and disrupting proceedings is not what anyone needs to do.
RBG was a anathema to Republicans but was approved with only 3 dissenting votes because she was qualified after vigorous investigation and questioning.
Kavanaugh is qualified and should have been questioned and investigated thoroughly within the process. Holding back information, and expressing hate as the Democrats did had no place in a civilized process.
It’s not the Trump nut jobs that showed their ass but rather the #pound me too’ers and the Senate Democrats who showed their asses.

Re: Trump announces Brett Kavanaugh as his 2nd SCOTUS nominee.
When this thing started there was all sorts of buzz about how the Democrat base was expecting the Democrats in the Senate to fight this tooth and nail. They had to do that in order to have a shot at keeping enthusiasm up for turnout during the upcoming elections. I don't think they planned it the way it played out but the bottom line is that they came across as fighting Kavanaugh's assignment to the Supreme Court tooth and nail.LeadBolt wrote:Thinking that the Democrats did what they needed to do is absurd. I don't know what Booker speech you're talking about. If you provide a link and I remember to come back and check I'll comment on it. But it doesn't matter. The big picture is that the Democrats needed to show their base that they would fight the Kavanaugh nomination and they ended up doing that to a greater extent than I think even they expected to going in.
Flipping the Senate was an extremely long shot going in. The big realistic objective is flipping the House. Right now that's a very uncertain proposition. But they have a reasonable chance. If they didn't keep their base reasonably fired up to get out and vote they'd have no shot.

So you’re saying that this had nothing to do about the advise and consent power of the Senate and Brett Kavanagh? It’s okay to ruin a man for a long shot of flipping the Senate with no conscious? Facts don’t matter and any made up crisis and inflaming of emotions for political gain over due process is called for? That sir is what is wrong.JohnStOnge wrote:When this thing started there was all sorts of buzz about how the Democrat base was expecting the Democrats in the Senate to fight this tooth and nail. Leave it to you to totally miss the reality of the situation. It’s not the DONK base that got fired up. It’s the CONK base that’s now fired up beyond belief. And it goes waaaaay beyond the “trump cult” folks. Average run of the mill conks are now piss as a motherfucker at the bullshit pulled by the donks and are going to go out of their way to do everything possible to make sure those fucking lunatics never regain power. So, well done. Let's all not forget that as the Democrats "do what they need to do" (according to JSO)....
the confirmation of Kavanaugh is an own-goal by the Democrats in the Senate
Had they not filibustered Gorsuch, Kavanaugh would likely have been blocked
so here's to Democrats continuing to do what they need to do

How's about a little hypocrisy from the least qualified justice to ever be confirmed to the SCOTUS?

What was it the Dems were saying about SCOTUS justices being political ... and temperament? I think it was supposed to be bad?
