Re: Trump announces Brett Kavanaugh as his 2nd SCOTUS nominee.
People are wired differently. The older I get the more it is evident. I've seen different people go through similar situations and act completely differently.
Again, I'm not saying Ford is lying, but she started this process with a small amount of information. She claimed that she struggled at UNC (3+ years later because of the trauma).
I got mugged in a Philly parking garage in 1985. I joined some people at a bar. When walking up to my car, I was grabbed from behind and had a serious choke hold put on me along with something being shoved in my back. The guy asked for my wallet. I struggled enough to say "Let me talk". He loosened his choke hold enough for me to say "My money is in my front pocket". He said "Give it to me". I slowly reached into my left pocket and pulled out the cash and held it up so he could see it. He then saw my watch on my left wrist and asked for that too. After I gave it to to him, he released me and as I turned to look at him he punched me in the side of the head.
I can point out the bar, the parking garage, the parking spot, etc. I can say how long it took. I can describe how I got in the car and pulled some emergency cash out of the glove compartment to get out of the garage. I can remember a lot of details as I relived them in my mind over the years. I remember thinking that whatever he was sticking in my back would kill me. I was pretty scared. But I drove to a house where I joined up with some of the people I was with at the bar and told my story. Then I continued on like it never happened.
I was surprised at how much she didn't remember about the incident and how traumatized she was because of it. It's quite different from my experience. But I realize that people are wired differently.
I'm guessing some of the problem is self-blame because she shouldn't have been there, and shouldn't have gone upstairs (was she even asked why she went upstairs?).

But the truth is that the spectrum is quite broad. I know a woman that has had 4 abortions. All of them were "Woopsie. Oh well. Diet Coke.".

Dude, kalmie with the impressive post. Well done!!!! Might get some of his centrist creds back with this one. Bravo.93henfan wrote:Kalm wih the everyman wrap-up post. You woke up earlier than GF, which is impressive since you're on the wrong coast.kalm wrote:

I remember when my buddies would call me up in high school and say "hey, we got a couple cases of h-bombs and so and so's parents are gone for the weekend so a bunch of us are heading over there in an hour." First thing I'd do is whip out the old calendar and jot it down.(The fact he kept the calendar is creepy)
Neither side can prove **** apparently. Not that they even have to.
Reality for right or wrong:
When dudes get rapey with you it's totally understandable that you want to bury it deep inside and try to forget and move past it. But that buried **** might come out much later someday and even if you remember for a fact through the beer soaked haze of a teenage summer night who it was and even if that person is being considered for a position of immense power, the trail is most likely simply too cold to prove it. Going public must be a hard thing to do in that instance and it requires some serious courage...especially knowing that in the end it won't make a difference anyway.
If you're a dude and you know you've never raped someone but made a habit of getting sloshed and grabby with the equally horny and flirtatious ladies and are now accused of being a rapist, it would be hard to not to get fired up and perhaps feel even a little guilty and defensive about your behaviour years ago.
Those rotten Dems have been playing politics with a judicial appointment for sure. HOW DARE THEY!!!But it's seriously time to move on. It's only illegal or against the rules if you get caught and they have been outplayed. (Although JSO's point that this might hurt the Republicans with the female vote could perhaps be true).
#metoo vs. a douchey frat boy political hack. It's like Isis vs. Saudi Arabia, Cowboys vs. Redskins, Uruk Hai vs. Moria orcs. You pray they both lose.
And no one speaking in that room yesterday deserves any praise other than for an A+ in political theatrics.

As this Kabuki theater performance was unfolding I was thinking about this same question and my guess it is going to be a wash. A majority of woman (like men) have already made up their mind before this based on their political affiliations, so one is really only talking about the undecided people. Those are going to be a bit more critical of both based on the fact that they probably don't like either side and are going to consider the facts and their own past as ways of deciding on how to vote.kalm wrote:

That said, every time I try to predict how a woman will think I wind up getting burned. And that is usually on a simple thing like, "Where would you like to go for supper?". So on a complex topic, that includes a lot of emotional context, who really knows.

I don't think it's a wash, as women are extremely emotional and are pretty easy to influence through such means, but there are some smart ones out there too, who can see right through the BS.
You just can't set a precedent that makes it so easy to destroy a man. We're almost half the population after all. Sure, sure, someday a female scientist will invent synthetic sperm and will propose to kill all male children at birth to eliminate toxic masculinity, but we're not there yet.

Agree on the emotional side, the influencing perhaps. They do tend to change their mind at the drop of the hat based on what seems to be random factors (at least to me). Lucky most of my female friends are pretty smart and good at spotting BS, so the last couple of days it has been interesting to hear their reasoning on this whole mess.93henfan wrote:I have female FB friends talking about dropping their Democratic party affiliation after yesterday.Winterborn wrote:

And no need to invent synthetic sperm, just tweak the nucleotides in the DNA with gene splicing.
