My wife's cousin tried out for the high jump - he's a jumper at Duke and had cleared 7' 4". He must have had a bad day, because he only cleared 6' 10.5" which was what he did in high school.

Very impressive jumper but tough day. I know the weather has been iffy so that couldn't have helped but these big meet jumps are tough. They start at a higher height than other meets. I imagine that that makes it tough to work your way up and get used to things. Hopefully, he keeps working at it and does better at next year's worlds qualifying.

The 800 was interesting and had to love Solomon at the end.

Great race by Symmonds who seems like he is already ready to go faster.

I thought KD was out of it with 200-300 to go but he ran smart and the old man qualified for London.

Solomon just won me over today. I am a fan and love to see how happy he was to qualify. Funny with Solomon on the groundin tears of joy, Symmonds walks up to him and says "Stand up bro, you're an Olympian" and gives him a hug.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, it was tough to see Webb's career be over and have him realize it (whether he keeps running or not, he finally gets that he may be done being as competitive as he once was) Watch this video and you'll see what I mean.

Don't know how I'd handle the situation but he does as well as possible for a guy who just realized his career could be over and has an interview within minutes of realizing it.

Told you never count those old folks KD proved he still has something left over in the tank.Somebody on flotrack said Rudisha is going to clean Symmonds clock in London well Nick must make it through the trials if he is to make the finals and that is no guarantee he will.Symmonds told somebody in a interview he wants to date Paris Hilton.Here is footage of the race " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Phelps is going in 8 events again, still has to qualify for all of them, did in his 1st last night - the 400IM. His duel with Lochte may be the biggest story of the whole Games.

CCU Amber Campbell is going to London. Whilst at CCU, I knew Amber and had many classess with her. She is a great athlete and an amazing person. Good job Amber!

Coastal Carolina alumna and current Chanticleer volunteer assistant coach Amber Campbell became the first United States track and field athlete to secure her spot on the U.S. Olympic Team at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials for the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in London.

Campbell, who entered the day ranked as the third-best American in the hammer throw, exceeded all expectations on her way to winning the hammer throw and establishing a new U.S. Olympic Trials record. A 16-time Big South champion while she wore the teal and black of Coastal Carolina, Campbell moved from fourth to first on her fifth throw of the day as she unleashed a 71.80m (235-06) bomb downrange on the Ronaldo Field at the Nike Worldwide Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.

Competing in the second flight of the afternoon, Campbell opened with a then first-place effort of 69.48m (227-11). She followed with a heave of 69.11m (226-09) on her second attempt before fouling on her third. She opened the event finals with a throw of 66.40m (217-10) followed by her winning throw before capping the competition with a final effort of 71.56m (234-09).

Campbell, a 2004 graduate of Coastal Carolina, will compete in her second consecutive Olympics in the hammer throw after also representing Team USA at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Also earning their place on the U.S. Olympic Team were Amanda Bingson of UNLV with a throw of 71.78m (235-06) and Jessica Cosby with a final distance of 70.77m (232-02).

The 2012 London Summer Olympic Games commence on Friday, July 27 with the Opening Ceremonies and run through Sunday, Aug. 12. The women's hammer throw is set to be contested on Friday, Aug. 10.

Awesome!!!

She'll be joined by another FCS schooler, Amanda Smock from NDSU who qualified in the triple jump-LINK
EUGENE, Ore.--Former North Dakota State University All-American Amanda (Thieschafer) Smock won the triple jump with a mark of 45 feet, 9 inches at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Monday, June 25, at a soggy and slick Hayward Field. Smock qualified for the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games.

“There’s more to come, and I’m looking forward to the Olympics,” said Smock.

On her first attempt of the competition, Smock recorded a mark of 45 feet, 9 inches to take an early lead. Unattached Sheena Gordon was second at 45 feet, 4 1/2 inch, and Andrea Geubelle of Kansas was third at 45 feet, 3 inches................

KD is a great guy and I was rooting for him big time.

While there are no guarantees, it's not too much of a stretch to say that Symmonds should be a favorite to make the finals in the 800 at the Olympics. In 2009, he finished 6th at Worlds, there was no Worlds in 2010, and in 2011, he finished 5th at Worlds. Rudisha is obviously best in the world at the 800 (and as dominant as any track athlete at his event). Kaki should be 2 but I have seen him blow up when he realized he couldn't catch Rudisha earlier this year. Symmonds is in the next group and has a chance to medal. Even if Symmonds does medal, Rudisha may clean his clock but that is nothing to be ashamed of. Rudisha should clean everyone in the world's clock.

As for the Paris Hilton date, I think I read that they had lunch together somewhere. Not sure if it's a publicity stunt or something else.

Even though he came in 1st in the 200 free in the Olympic Trials, Michael Phelps has withdrawn from that race due to Olympic scheduling - so he's looking for a total haul of only 7 golds this summer....

Former NAU runner Lopez Lomong (Flag-bearer at Peking Olympics) qualified for his second Olympics, finishing third in the 5K.

He will race against NAU's David McNeil (Austrailia) in the 5000 meters.

NAU alum Diego Estrada will run in the 10K for Mexico.
