And if the Phils win tonight it doesn't get much easier for the Giants either, especially since the Phils won't have to beat Lincecum in order to win the series.Gil Dobie wrote:It won't get much easier for the Phils, after tonight it's Lincecum, Sanchez and Cain in games 5,6,7.

Re: NLCS
Here's a stat for you: The last time a pitcher won a post season game with as much rest as Blanton has had was 1939. Since then 15 pitchers have tried, they are a combined 0-11 with an ERA over 7. I like Hamels on short rest more than I like Blanton on long rest.93henfan wrote:Uncle Chuck has already said Blanton will start game 4 and reiterated that last night after the game. Starting Halladay and Oswalt on short rest is not so much a concern as having to start Hamels again on short rest in game 6, something he's never done.BlueHen86 wrote:The Phils will probably pitch Halladay tomorrow (4-2 lifetime on 3 days rest) followed by Oswalt (6-1 lifetime on 3 days rest).
Gotta keep our fingers crossed with Blanton tonight. If he can get it done, we're set up real nice for the final three games. Lose and.. ...well, I don't want to talk about that.![]()
Bats just need to come to life tonight, and I think they will. Yesterday may have been Utley's worst game ever as a Philly, and I know he doesn't like being a clown. I expect Uts to destroy the ball tonight.

So the law of averages says Blanton is a sure win tonight.

Re: NLCS
Historically Cain has not pitched well in Phila. On the other hand, Sanchez pitched well in game 2. Like the Phillies, the Giants have 3 good starters. I still think the Phils can come back and win the series, but the Giants were the team that I thought would cause the most problems.Gil Dobie wrote:Lincecum and Cain and pray for rain.BlueHen86 wrote:

I think I heard it on the Fanatic, Jason Stark was on the Mike Missanelli show this afternoon.93henfan wrote:I see you were listening to WIP today too.BlueHen86 wrote: Here's a stat for you: The last time a pitcher won a post season game with as much rest as Blanton has had was 1939. Re: NLCS
It was quoted by a caller on WIP around 11:45am. I was headed to pick up my youngest from half-day preschool. Reception for the Fanatic is hit-or-miss down here on AM and out of range on FM. How do you like that station?BlueHen86 wrote:I think I heard it on the Fanatic, Jason Stark was on the Mike Missanelli show this afternoon.93henfan wrote:

Re: NLCS
In the morning I split my time pretty evenly between it and WIP. It depends on what they are talking about. I prefer the WIP morning show, but sometimes they get away from sports. The Fanatic has the Mike and Mike show on in the morning, I like them but they aren't Philly specific. I find that juggling the two stations in the morning gets me a pretty good mix of national and local sports.93henfan wrote:It was quoted by a caller on WIP around 11:45am. In the afternoon I listen to Mike Missanelli on the Fanatic. WIP has Howard Eskin on in the afternoons and I can't stand him. I have also always liked Missanelli, I'm glad he's back on the air.

Yep, they broke it down pretty obviously on that replay analysis there in the bottom of the second.BlueHen86 wrote:I know the balk rule is confusing, but that was about as obvious as it gets.

Another thing I heard on the radio today:93henfan wrote:And Howard can't lay off the breaking ball in the dirt. Some things never change.
When the Phillies are batting and the count reaches a point where the pitcher usually throws a fastball, the Giant pitchers are not throwing fastballs, but the Phillies continue to swing fastball.

Any umpire can call a balk, I'm suprised that none of them did, but the first base ump had the best look.93henfan wrote:Yep, they broke it down pretty obviously on that replay analysis there in the bottom of the second.BlueHen86 wrote:I know the balk rule is confusing, but that was about as obvious as it gets.

The #1 fans in the nation, also known as Philadelphia fans, are trembling as San Franny scores to make it 2-0. Where is Michael Irvin when you need someone to boo.

Gil, grow up. Most of us are trying to have a serious discussion about the game/series. All you are doing is stirring the pot and it isn't necessary.Gil Dobie wrote:Get more please phucking with philly.93henfan wrote:

If you really want to trash Philly fans start a thread on the smack board, that is what it is for.
