It really baffles me how philly fans completely shoot down empirical data and make arguments based almost solely on emotion..
As well, it equally baffles me, that with every sentence you distance yourself further & further from reality. Polanco leading the NL in BA as late as a week ago & he's the worst or second-worst 3B in the NL East?
Depending on who you say the Braves' 3B is, he may have a point. If it's Martin Prado, I'd rate them like this:

1. Zimmerman
2. Wright
T-3: Prado
T-3: Polanco
5. Whoever the hell the Marlins' 3B is

BATS ALIVE, BATS ALIVE!!!

Three-run homers by Schneider and Howard so far. 6-1 Phils in the third.

Kendrick was fortunate to get a double play in the first after walking in a run.

Rollins lead off the game with a HR. Utley doubled. Polanco struck out. Howard at the plate.

Astros are being equal opportunity spoilers. After sweeping the Phils, it looks like they're on their way to sweeping the Cardinals.

Oh and if you want names: you already said Utley but any Phillies fan will tell you that Polanco & Ruiz have had better years. Ruiz may be the team MVP.

Where Polanco rates among NL East 3rd basemen has nothing to do with his value to the Phillies relative to Jayson Werth's.

I agree with bluehenbillk that Ruiz and Polanco have had better years so far.

It's funny (at least to me) that you accused Phillie fans of making Pat Burrell into Jesus, yet that is exactly what you are doing with Werth. Werth's batting average with two outs and men in scoring position reminds me of the Mets in September.

Phils come back from a 7-3 deficit with 9 runs in the 7th and hang on to win 12-11.

The Phils had 9 hits and 3 homers in the 7th inning including a Chase Utley GS.

The Phillies now trail the Braves by 2 games in the NL east and lead the Giants by 2 games in the Wild Card. :thumb:

Man, I wonder what the percentage is in MLB history of teams that won the game when the other team had 20 hits?

Another crazy game at Coors Field. 23 runs on 35 hits.

Nice to see Uts getting his stroke back. It's a thing of beauty when he's able to drop that bat head down and hit a home run off a pitch headed for his ankles. :notworthy:

If Howard and Utley are coming alive like it seems they are, this will be another wonderful Fall of Phillies baseball. It's like September rolls around and this team can flip a switch. It would be nice, although not necessary, for the Phils to pull even and pass the Braves by next week. They have the Marlins on the road and the fish have given them problems before. Important for the Phils to keep carrying this momentum, and having Hamels and Halladay go these next two games is a good way to doing that. Like I said, though, if Howard and Utley are heating up this could be real fun to watch.

Just a gem tonight by Hamels (7 innings), Contreras, and Madson.

The game had 28 less hits and 24 less runs than last night!

Braves losing 6-1 to the Fish with only three outs left. Phils can close it to one game.

93henfan wrote:Here was a really good article in today's Philly.com explaining Charlie's rationale for the rotation this week:

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/Rot ... g_run.html

Some questioned why he saved Halladay for tomorrow night against the Nats when he could have pitched tonight against the Giants. Turns out, it sets up Halladay-Hamels-Oswalt for all six games against the Braves in September, with five of the six starts on an extra day's rest. :thumb:

I recall a Rockies fan stating in the All-Star game thread on here that Charlie couldn't manage his way out of a wet paper sack, or something to that effect. Wanna try again?

From the article, here's how the rotation shakes out in September with days rest in parentheses:

Sept. 4 - MIL - Halladay (4)
Sept. 5 - MIL - Kendrick (4)
Sept. 6 - FLA - Oswalt and Doubleheader spot starter (4)
Sept. 7 - FLA - Blanton (4)
Sept. 8 - FLA - Hamels (4)
Sept. 9 - OFF
Sept. 10 - at NYM - Halladay (5)
Sept. 11 - at NYM - Kendrick (5)
Sept. 12 - at NYM - Oswalt (5)
Sept. 13 - at FLA - Blanton (5)
Sept. 14 - at FLA - Hamels (5)
Sept. 15 - at FLA - Halladay (4)
Sept. 16 - OFF
Sept. 17 - WSH - Oswalt (4)
Sept. 18 - WSH - Kendrick (6)
Sept. 19 - WSH - Blanton (5)
Sept. 20 - ATL - Hamels (5)
Sept. 21 - ATL - Halladay (5)
Sept. 22 - ATL - Oswalt (4)
Sept. 23 - OFF
Sept. 24 - NYM - Blanton (4)
Sept. 25 - NYM - Hamels (4)
Sept. 26 - NYM - Halladay (4)
Sept. 27 - at WSH - Oswalt (4)
Sept. 28 - at WSH - Kendrick (9)
Sept. 29 - at WSH - Blanton (4)
Sept. 30 - OFF
Oct. 1 - at ATL - Halladay (5)
Oct. 2 - at ATL - Hamels (6)
Oct. 3 - at ATL - Oswalt (5)

Just wanted to bump this post from a couple of weeks ago. Luckily, mother nature has cooperated, and the planned rotation has held. :thumb:

Phils and Braves both win.

Phils now 20 games over .500.

Halladay gets win # 17.

Phils up 3 1/2 in the wild card (for now).

Defense was terrific tonight. Great catches by Ibanez and Victorino late. Infield had several nifty plays. Lidge was lights out. :thumb:
