I said 6 days ago that I am ready for the Olympics.
I'll be in London this year for the athletics competitions.

(But for some reason my first attempt to post was denied).

Earlier today I watched the men's hammer throw competition for the USA OT on TV.
Tomorrow track racing starts.

If you're a volleyball fan, I would check out the women's indoor competition. If the current World Gran Prix is any indication, it is going to be a great tournament. USA is currently ranked #1 but China, Japan, Brazil, Russia and Serbia are all in the mix.

Then you'll get confused watching the coverage, because that's the terminology the Olympic Committee uses, ESPECIALLY when the Games are outside the US.

USA is ranked #1 in the world and is the gold medal favorite. You are cheering against them?

Both other Americans (Harper and Wells) will be favored over her and and the likely gold medalist is an Australian. There are also a number of others who currently are favored over Jones - it was a surprise that she even made the team. Doesn't mean she won't medal but she won't be one of the top 3 favorites going into the Olympics.

Most exciting race happened last night in the women's 100 meter. Top 2 were clear but 3rd and final spot is still not decided as the photo finish showed a tie between Felix and Tarmouh. Probably won't be decided until after the 200s are done on the 30th. Both have the same coach and are training partners. Felix has a better chance of making the 200 (not sure about Tarmouh) so might Felix voluntarily drop out if she makes it and allow Tarmouh in? Both will be on the 4x100 team.

Then you missed the women's 400 final my pick for bronze Fran McCorory almost blew her shot making the squad finishing in 50.43 and nearly getting caught by Debbie Dunn at the finish. To me that was the most exciting race I saw.Jeremy Wariner needs to think about a move up to the 800m no longer looks interested in running 400m anymore. That women's 100 was too close to call had Felix taking third by a nose!!!!!

That was definitely a gutsy race by McCorory today. Went out extremely hard and I thought she had lost with about 40-50 to go but she did a great job of holding on. Sanya Richards-Ross is just too good in that event

As for Wariner, agree that he is past his time in the 400. Problem is I don't know if he will be a good 800 runner - may or may not but not sure he has done it before. Symmonds and Jock should be around for a while and there are some other young guys too (My guess is Robinson retires soon so he is irrelevant in this conversation). If he wants to move up to the 800, he has the advantage that Andrews and Wheating have for some reason decided this year to focus on the 1500 so they may have left the 800 as a primary event for good.

Wariner may have to be convinced into running the 800m as for other 800 talent don't forget Robby Andrews(Virginia '11 outdoor),Kevin Hicks (Florida A&M indoor '05)both were former NCAA champions in this event as for Khadevis he isn't dead just yet still has some spring in his body.Hicks and Andrews are both sub 1:45 in the 800.1:44.94 for Hicks and Andrews 1:44.71.

I wish that Felix was in that 400 final just to see how Sanya would deal with somebody on her level.

Andrews is only doing the 1500 this year for some reason. Not sure if he has given up on the 800 for good and not sure why he did this year but he may have moved up to 1500 for good - His kick is deadly kind of like Symmonds. Andrews will just need to stay in better contact for the first 600 meters of the 800 if he is going to run more 800s against the international guys. Figured he would have tried the 800 and 1500 to double his chances at the Olympics.

Don't really know anything about Hicks (which doesn't mean much because it's a hard sport to follow completely) but looks like he is not running in this year's Olympic trials in any event. Definitely are a number of other 800 runners that I didn't mention that are 1:45 and faster.

As for KD (Robninson), he'll turn 36 this year so this will likely be his last Olympics but he may have a year or 2 to go at the most and I would consider him a favorite in today's finals to make the Olympics along with Symmonds. That 3rd spot is really open.

Felix versus Sanya would have been a great competition.

Don't know why Andrews is running the 1500m when his expertise is the 800 as it was in the prep ranks he established a new indoor high school mark as a senior of 1:49.22 as a college frosh he shocked the world by coming from behind to defeat Wheating for the indoor 2010 NCAA 800m title in 1:48.10 and catching him at the tape no less.He pulled the same stunt last yr outdoor catching Jock from behind recording a pr of 1:44.71 previously mentioned.Hicks like Andrews put himself on the map as a sophomore at Florida A&M pulling a shocking upset in '05 winning the indoor NCAA 800 in a pr of 1:46.97 that to date was the last time anyone won a indoor 800 under 1:47/1:48 and he also won the indoor national title in 1:48.09 as a tuneup for his aforementioned NCAA win,he proved that it was no fluke by finishing a strong second outdoors in the '05 NCAA 800 finals in his pr of 1:44.94 which is a conference mark(Mid Eastern Conference).
