Re: 2017 MLB Thread
Looks like the Diamondbacks thought the season ended at 100 games.

Hey, when did the Astros stop wearing the rainbow uniforms? I guess I haven't seen or heard much from them in a while.
Nats beat Astros again last night.... Stros haven't beaten the Nats since 2012. I sure hope both make the WS.

Ugly loss. Besides the bats going silent that was a case of the first half bullpen looking like the first half bullpen. Not a very worrysome loss.Gil Dobie wrote:FIFY89Hen wrote:Hey, when did the Astros stop wearing the rainbow uniforms? I guess I haven't seen or heard much from them in a while.

Yeah, the Astros, outside of throwback games, haven't worn those distinctive rainbow-type uniforms since 1986. Yes, I said that right, 1986, when Reagan was still in office and the Expos were still in existence (and would be for almost a decade to come).89Hen wrote:Hey, when did the Astros stop wearing the rainbow uniforms? Since then, sure, they haven't had tons of success, but they did get to the NLCS and lost in crushing fashion (ugh, Brad Lidge) in 2004, they won the National League pennant in 2005, and they were the wild card winner last year. You probably don't notice stuff like that since you stop watching baseball as soon as the Nats are eliminated from the playoffs, which strangely happens year after year without wining a single round.

Just finished watching the Yankees - Tigers game. What a mess that was. Benches cleared a couple of times. 8 people ejected. Suspensions and/or fines coming for others after film is reviewed by MLB. It was awesome.

That was brutal, Sanchez took better cheap shots than the BYU football team. Verlander and V Mart almost got into it and they are teammates. Should be a ton of suspensions as this went beyond the typical baseball fight.

Re: 2017 MLB Thread
As a Yankee fan, I'm not complaining, but they are well covered in broadcasts lately. Between MLB, TBS, ESPN and FS1, I think they have been on TV for something like 11 of their last 13 games. Now 6 of them were against the Red Sox and 4 against the Mets, but wow.

Yeah, it's great to see the New York Yankees finally rising from obscurity. It's like you hardly ever got to see them before 2017.CAA Flagship wrote:As a Yankee fan, I'm not complaining, but they are well covered in broadcasts lately. Re: 2017 MLB Thread
I never really understand baseball brawls - baseball players always come off as sounding like pampered babies when it comes to "there's a code we all follow" and "the game polices itself" and crap like that. When is it okay in the midst of playing a game that is, at the end of it, just a game, to just turn around and wail on someone with a flurry of punches? It's baseball, heck, the Little League World Series has been on all week and it's just 12 year old kids having fun playing the game. Bullpen guys going at a full sprint from the bullpen just so they can get their swings in during the melee because someone either hit someone with a baseball or said something that made someone *gasp* angry is barely juvenile. As I said, a bunch of babies.CAA Flagship wrote:Just finished watching the Yankees - Tigers game. What a mess that was. Benches cleared a couple of times. 8 people ejected. When MLB Network started they said they were going to cover all teams equally, now they are MLB NY and Chicago.

I mean, if the Marlins and Rays actually had fans, I'm sure they'd be on TV more.

The "Players Weekend" uniforms absolutely suck, IMO. Orioles orange sleeves don't look to be the right color. Mariners have what, teal and light blue jerseys?
Not a fan of the nicknames on the back of the jerseys but I can live with it for a weekend.

You can always count on PNW teams to wear something completely queer. It's what they do in Washington and Oregon.CAA Flagship wrote:The "Players Weekend" uniforms absolutely suck, IMO. Orioles orange sleeves don't look to be the right color. Mariners have what, teal and light blue jerseys?

As far as the Orioles, it looks like they're not alone. The oranges don't work well on the special jerseys:
The blues and reds go together very well. Cardinals, Red Sox, and White Sox are easily the three sharpest jerseys of the lot. Reds and A's are classy as well. Phils are unimaginative and bland. Eschewing powder blue was wrong and it obviously continued to go downhill from there.

The Mariners' ones are fine, and aren't that far off from their regular Sunday home uniforms. You and the Flaggot just have an inferiority complex about the best region of the country.

Rockies don't look too bad except the socks. Guess all teams are selling them after today and 100% of proceeds go to charity.

Rhys Hoskins of the Phillies now has 11 homers in his first 18 games. MLB record. Bright spot in a dismal season.

That is impressive. Now, will it continue or is he a fluke.

Looked up his minor league stats, he has legit power as evidenced by 38 bombs last year at Reading and 29 this year at Lehigh Valley.
