NBA center Jason Collins on Monday announced that he's gay in a story for Sports Illustrated, becoming the first active player in a major American team sport to announce that he is gay...
Good for him. I didn't realize that no other active player had come out before in the four major leagues.
He played in 6 games this past year, so probaly wouldn't be in the NBA next year regardless of his sexual orientation. Can't wait for when he doesn't get signed next year. Everyone will say it is because he is gay, and ignore the fact that he is old and no longer any good at basketball.

Hadn't thought of that angle. If it's a ploy to get a sympathy year, then that's weak sauce.

False - 38 games last year, but 7' centers tend to be able to stay in the game long past when guards/forwards do.

I am glad the guy stepped up and came out. It must have been a hard thing for him to do. However it is a bit of a coincidence that he did it now just as his NBA career seems to be very close to an end.

Actually, your stat is WRONG!!!!!!
He played 6 games with the Wizards, after being traded by the Celtics, where he played 32 games. So 38 games total.

I stand corrected (Damm Wikipedia). It does seem like he has some gas in the tank.
I have something that I have wanted to say for a long time.
I am heterosexual.
There, I said it.
I feel much better now. I'm sorry if this will be the topic of many news and talk shows for the next week. I'm sorry that your young kids who do not understand sex have to hear all the talk. I'm sorry that you will have to carefully craft answers to their innocent questions. But I feel so much better now. It's all about me anyway. The world should be happy for me now.

I'm all for a gay man and a gay woman getting married.
