Re: March Madness 2017
Oregon State nearly became the first women's #2-seed to go down in the first round. Long Beach State missed two shots in the final 10 seconds and lost by 1.

Re: March Madness 2017
Not sure what you are really saying here, SH. It doesn't matter what seed you are, but if you are playing an equal seed, it really isn't a true "win" in my mind. 11 only deserves to play a 6, not another 11, for it to be legit.SuperHornet wrote:That was certainly true in the days of ONLY 16A-vs.-16B play-in games. Now we have these crazy 11A-vs.-11B play-in games. I have no idea how THAT fits into the "play-in game isn't really a tournament-game" paradigm, particularly with your last statement, Flaggy.CAA Flagship wrote: I'm OK with them as long if they didn't count as a NCAAT win. Their opponent's seed is not worthy of their seed.
That confusion is one reason I'm dead set AGAINST play-in games. Byes for the ones and twos are one thing. But if you only have a few outliers, those are play-in games, and those are dumb....
Old Dominion has 3 NCAAT wins as a #8 (WVU), a #14 (Villanova), and a #11 (Notre Dame). I don't need to hear from "play-in" winners that they have NCAAT wins also.

Yesterday was not kind to my bracket. I now have 26/32 after the first round. I only lost one second round team from those 6 first round losses though.

I like the play in games. More hoops to watch and some of it's good. USC proved they belong.CAA Flagship wrote:Not sure what you are really saying here, SH. 24/32 for me, and I also went 3-1 in the Tuesday and Wednesday games. Not great, but I like upsets and tend to over pick them in the first couple of days. (When money isn't involved) Went with my heart with UNC-Wilmington and East Tennessee State.CAA Flagship wrote:Yesterday was not kind to my bracket. I now have 26/32 after the first round. For the record, the 5 minutes I took to fill out a bracket has UCLA beating Villanova in the final, with Oregon and Florida State as the other two in the final four.

A gut punch for mid-majors as Penn's women blew a 21-point lead and lost to Texas A&M, setting an NCAA Tournament record.

Re: March Madness 2017
I'm thoroughly disgusted at the corrupt officiating I saw in the game from Utah this afternoon. Arizona didn't win that game; the zebras did. That push in the back while a St. Mary's player was airborne that resulted in a foul on the Gael who nearly faceplanted the deck is one of the worst calls I've ever seen. Basketball HAS to be about the worst sport around in terms of obvious favoritism to higher conference teams. Something should be done about that....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Except Gonzaga was the beneficiary of an even worse call on the same court in the game prior. Tilly blocked a shot late in the game from inside the rim and Collins (NW's coach) got T'd up for it. There were some questionable calls earlier that had sent Collins into a tirade and I was waiting for the technical but he was 1000% right on the play.SuperHornet wrote:I'm thoroughly disgusted at the corrupt officiating I saw in the game from Utah this afternoon. Go Blue!!
Hard to believe, but the ACC started with 9 teams in the tournament, and only two remain playing. And those two haven't reached the round of 16 yet.

Speaking of teams that shouldn't be in the ACC... did you see Notre Dame basically quit playing with more than a minute left in the game?

Yeah, it isn't the ACC of memory for sure. And Notre Dame has no business in it. But then again, I'm still trying to accept Florida State and Georgia Tech into the conference.CID1990 wrote:Several of them shouldn't be in the ACCAshevilleApp wrote:Go Blue!!

Re: March Madness 2017
The refereeing did not shine in many games in the first two rounds. Tons of questionable stuff and refs either doing too much or too little in games. You could see it from game to game, just pretty poor throughout.kalm wrote:Except Gonzaga was the beneficiary of an even worse call on the same court in the game prior. Re: March Madness 2017
Don't disagree but Arizona was the better team & that one call didn't cost them the game. I think Arkansas had more to complain about vs UNC.SuperHornet wrote:I'm thoroughly disgusted at the corrupt officiating I saw in the game from Utah this afternoon. Did you see Charles Barkley yesterday morning? He said, essentially laughed for 25 seconds at Duke and Villanova fans.CID1990 wrote:Best website everGrizalltheway wrote:Pooooor Dukies.

Re: March Madness 2017
Wow. I sucked on the bracket this year. At this point (Round of 16), I have 7/16, 3/8, 2/4, 2/2, 1/1. I picked a few upsets to advance to 16 but none came in while others did.

Re: March Madness 2017
Well, I had Duke vs UNC in the final. But my bracket isn't terribly busted. Better than most years.
