Ok Clenz. You are on the record. I will have no interest in rubbing your nose in it if Creighton makes it to the final 16 or 8. Appreciate your local knowledge.

Re: THE BIG EAST CONFERENCE
Conference tournament where they play 3 or 4 games in 3 or 4 days...they get into the NCAA tournament where they play 2 out of 3 days of high intensity basketball? They aren't built for that..Greg McDermott teams have NEVER been built for that. They are great during the season when you get 4-5 days rest between games. It's not a "huge deal" when you only go 6-7 deep on a regular basis but you only play twice per week. Why do you think CU does nothing in practice? Well, not nothing but they have probably the lightest practices in CBB. I remember last season there was a practice watch on CU because for about a 2 or 3 week stretch at the end of the season McDermott, Gibbs, Etchenique, Chattman, Wragge, Manigat, and Artino didn't practice at all outside of just shooting. Why was that? Because that was 95% of their minutes played per game right there and they couldn't afford to be working any harder in practice and still play a game.
I appreciate all your insight into Creighton. It's not something a normal college bball fan gets to know about a middling NCAA tournament team. Due to your insight, I will have multiple brackets with them getting upset in the first or second round.
But I remain convinced that they are good enough this year that they can make it to the second weekend if they play at least 80% of what they just did to Nova. I will be watching them closely over the coming weeks. We need the Big East to send some quality teams, so it doesn't get the perception of a midmajor conference. And Creighton, Xavier, and Nova may be the only ones to make it. I'll be rooting for all 3!

Re: THE BIG EAST CONFERENCE
This will be the last year for Creighton to have a chance for a long time if you look at their roster.
They have a chance to be a bubble team next year but after that.....

Need Xavier, Providence and Seton Hall to make their tourney move to get 5 in. Nova and Creighton are locks.
This conference is better than most think.
I wonder if Creighton will get their proper ranking this week in the AP poll. Thy should be in the top 15 for sure with their record and SOS.

Seton Hall is not a tourney team. The Big East will get AT MOST 4 in (Nova, Creighton, Xavier, Prov). And after looking at both Xavier and Prov schedules, I would argue Xavier probably won't make it in.Need Xavier, Providence and Seton Hall to make their tourney move to get 5 in. Nova and Creighton are locks.
This conference is better than most think.

Better than what? There's no depth to the new Big East compared with the other mid major conferences out there. The A10 is clearly better than the new Big East, and you can even argue that the AAC is better as well, at least until Louisville leaves next year. As the other poster said, outside of Seton Hall winning the conference tourney they are not a tournament team. Xavier and Providence may end up being tourney teams, but they're going to be bad seeds and not really threats to win a game, let alone two. The Big East conference schedule is padded with a lot of easy "W"'s right now.
nova and Creighton are locks, that's true (barring a miserable February, but that's highly unlikely to happen), but even their resumes are light because of the weak Big East - nova's best win happened in November, and Creighton's best win is against nova. They'll both run the risk of not playing a real, tournament-tested team (other than each other) for a good three months in the lead up to March.

Gannon fan- Nova and Creighton's resume to date are light? Come on man! They both have played strong schedules by every unbiased measure. Nova's schedule especially has been one of the strongest in the country.
What do you know about Seton hall?. Do you know any of their starters or even how many injuries they sustained so far? They are a VERY good team when healthy and they are about to make a big run in my opinion.
As far as the A10 is concrned, let's discuss. I think even you know that Creighton and Nova would run thru that conference undefeated. What makes you say that the A10 is stronger than the Big East or are you just trying to get an argument started?

You are as stubborn as anyone. But, keep it up at this rate you will still be posting how bad they are into April as they cut down the nets.
On a serious note, you realize this is the best Creighton team ever , right?

Have you ever even seen Creighton before this year or before they played nova? I understand you want to make that loss by nova look as good as possible, but there's no way that Creighton would sweep Wichita St this year, let alone sweep the rest of the MVC.vutomcat wrote:clenz wrote: They never have...and wouldn't this year either.

Re: THE BIG EAST CONFERENCE
Kenpom has the top 4 teams in the A10 in the top 43 of the country. The top 4 for the Big East are in the top 46. He has it pretty even to that point, and the A10 does better depth-wise after that.vutomcat wrote:GannonFan wrote:

And stop about the injuries for Seton Hall. Plenty of teams could have the same argument. You're right, though, SH could start a big run - they do have the bulk of the Big East ahead of them and the depth is non-existent there. Thing is, SH even has a worse SOS than most - Kenpom again has their Non conference schedule as ranking 343rd and the overall schedule as 177th. That's why they aren't a tourney team this year, coupled with the fact that they won't hit 20 wins in the regular season as well.

I've watched Creighton very closely for over a decade I know their roster with much greater detail than you could dream to have. I know their history, ins/outs, tendencies, etc... very well.
They are a good team...but not near what you make them to be.
Last year's Creighton team was better. They played MUCH better defense. The still didn't run the MVC...hell they didn't win the conference. They haven't won at UNI since before Doug backed out of his signed letter of intent to uni...

Re: THE BIG EAST CONFERENCE
Padded with a lot of easy W's? Spoken like a person who hasn't watched a single BE game. There are no easy W's. Even Butler and Depaul are mediocre teams this year. If you want easy W's, we just have to look to the vaunted A-10 (George Mason and Fordham). And I'm sorry, St. Louis just doesn't scare me this year even with their impressive record. I would worry more about GWU and UMASS before them.Better than what? There's no depth to the new Big East compared with the other mid major conferences out there. The A10 is clearly better than the new Big East, and you can even argue that the AAC is better as well, at least until Louisville leaves next year. Also, to show you the conference strength (IMO), I would argue if Butler or Depaul was in the A-10, they would be in the St. Joes/La Salle category. In other words, the worst of the BE is the middle of the A-10. Not very impressive after all.
And claiming Nova's schedule is soft due to the Big East schedule is hilarious. As of now, they have the 11th hardest SOS and have played the 3rd hardest Offensive schedule. That doesn't only come from November and December!

The records show Creighton won the regular season and the tournament last year...maybe the site I checked was wrong? Which year's teams for Creighton compare with this year's? I don't see where they were ever a high seed in the NCAA's. Maybe 02'03?

I have not seen much of Creighton before this year but when I checked their prior NCAA seedings the best I saw going back to the 70's is a #6 seed. This year's team will get a 4/5.
And, who said they would run thru MVC?
Re: THE BIG EAST CONFERENCE
when it counts to the mvc you can't look at seeds to determine how good the teams arevutomcat wrote:clenz wrote: exactly this.

WSU was a 9 seed last season and didn't crack a poll after week 7...
UNI finished the 09/10 regular and conference tournament with a record of 28-4...got a 9 seed. Never was higher than 14 on the polls. Made the S16, knocking off the number 1 team in the nation while leading for all but about 20 seconds of the game. In the S16 the refs made sure Michigan State want going to fall to uni as well....UNI was the better team but can't have a mid major knock out the two biggest final four draws in back to back rounds...they were already passed UNI knocked Kansas out of the St. Louis region costing the NCAA tens of thousands in ticket sales...can't let a mid major take Michigan State (and possibly the winner of Ohio State/Tennessee on the other side of the region) out of s possible final 4 in Indianapolis.
How far did you pick WSU to go last season? Maybe second round....maybe? The the majority of fans that follow "mid major"basketball had them in the s16, at the very least, while th having CU knocked out early. How far did you have UNI going? Probably out in the first round...again almost everyone that followed cbb outside of the power school had UNI beating UNLV and a decent number had UNI beating Kansas, or at least giving them a game. The MVC has S16 appearances from WSU (2), Bradley, UNI, SIU...but no Creighton. The MVC gets no respect because of people like you...and Creighton. Missouri State has been left out of the tournament 3 times with an RPI I the 20s....why? You realize that Louisville beat 3 MVC school last year by a combined 15 points...and needed a rather controversial ending to all three of them to win....and this is coming from someone who I'd also a Louisville fan.
Your lack of basketball knowledge is astounding...but not shocking. You are like a Big 10, ACC, Notre Dame, BYU football fan. Your sense odd worth is way over inflated based :/ shit that happened before any college age student was born. You couldn't name more than Doug McDermott on CUs roster before this year, or a single thing about them...Yet now you're trumpeting them as a top 15 program. You don't know anything about college basketball except what ESPN, Fox Sports, NBCSN shove down your throat....which isn't based on quality...but ratings. It's why Duke, UNC, UCONN, etcc are on twice a week no matter who they are playing our how good they are.
The new Big East isn't what you think it is...it's a glorified Mid Major...and that will show even more as time goes on. I've already warned you what will happen with Creighton, Butler is a huge shell of what they were and it likely won't get much better, Depaul/Providence/St John's/Seaton Hall aren't anything to brag about..ever..they would likely finish middle of the pack in the A10, CUSA and MVC.
Georgetown, Nova, and Marquette may be okay though due to "name". You are very sheltered in your view of basketball...the schools you think are very highly regarded simply aren't because the aren't very good

My post made two points--
1) Creighton won the MVC last year, regular season and tournament. I wasn't trying to embarrass you I was just checking a fact. I know you are a MVC guy. Lots of pent up frustration in the above post.
2) I asked what Creighton team historically was better than this year's.
Sounds to me like you are still smarting from a tough loss in the tourney last year.
I don't need a lot of stats or prior history to support what my eyes can see clearly. Creighton is a very good team.
Where would you rank Creighton if you don't think they are a top 20 team this year? If I read you correctly you wouldn't have them in your top 25?

Re: THE BIG EAST CONFERENCE
That's absurd! 17-3 with losses to GWU, SDSU, and Providence, plus key wins over Nova and Xavier plus #1 offense in the country = top 25 team. I think 20 is a nice spot for them right now.Where would you rank Creighton if you don't think they are a top 20 team this year? If I read you correctly you wouldn't have them in your top 25?

True that. Clearly the best basketball conference for many years.
But it's still pretty good.

Re: THE BIG EAST CONFERENCE
Big East with two more good out of conference wins. Georgetown beats Mich St at a neutral site and Nova romps over Temple at the Liacouras Center. Pretty good? Very good.
Butler at the bottom of the Big East with a 10-2 record outside of conference. Georgetown and St. John's also in the bottom half of the conference with 9-3 and 10-3 records out of conference respectively. Providence 10-3 as well and we all know how good Nova and Creighton are.
As deep as any conference out there top to bottom. Only one weak team.
