I agree the ACC is the best.GannonFan wrote:Pretty sure the ACC's mark of 18-5 far surpassed anyone's record, the Big East included. And that 7-4 has the big old "SEC" asterisk on there as being really the result of one team. I believe similar records by the SEC in the past tournament were pooh-poohed by new Big East fans like yourself - hypocritical to trumpet it now. I agree, Xavier should've made a better showing of it as Wisconsin struggled all year. But again, the rigors of the tournament are not always kind to teams from conferences like the Big East or any conference - again, just not nearly enough good teams at the top. Sure, you'll get outliers like this year's nova where they win in spite of the lack of top echelon competition in conference, but that's not a recipe for year after year success.vutomcat wrote:
Just check the final four tv listings. You'll find only three conferences are left. Big East is one of them.
7-4 overall this year in the tourney. Best OOC record (I think). A very good year. Would have liked to seen X win a couple more. They surely were good enough. But, the tourney can be cruel sometimes even to the best of teams. Ask Michigan State this year.
Tournament has proven what we've always known, the ACC, especially after siphoning off the top of the old Big East, is by and far the best conference out there.
The new Big East is one the top conferences. Period, end of story. And, it's not just the excellent tourney results you need to spin away. IT'S ABOUT RESULTS ON THE COURT ALL YEAR. It's those pesky OOC results as well. The results of the games are what matter and the results this year tell any objective basketball fan that the Big East was one of the top three conferences. Where's the Big 10, Pac 12, SEC now? Big East is still playing.
And, tell me what happened to your theory about the Big East being too weak to prepare a team for a deep tournament run? Guess you need to find a new spin on that one. Oh, now it's "not a good recipe for success". How weak is that adjustment on the theory?
Just looked at the Final Four teams from the old Big East from 2000-2010 when they started to split. The Big East in five of those years didn't have anyone in the Final Four. Trying to diminish the accomplishments of the new Big East this year is an exercise in futility for the weak minded. You would be better off just admitting you were wrong and moving along. Maybe another trip to Florida would help.
