Just check the final four tv listings. You'll find only three conferences are left. Big East is one of them.

7-4 overall this year in the tourney. Best OOC record (I think). A very good year. Would have liked to seen X win a couple more. They surely were good enough. But, the tourney can be cruel sometimes even to the best of teams. Ask Michigan State this year.
Pretty sure the ACC's mark of 18-5 far surpassed anyone's record, the Big East included. And that 7-4 has the big old "SEC" asterisk on there as being really the result of one team. I believe similar records by the SEC in the past tournament were pooh-poohed by new Big East fans like yourself - hypocritical to trumpet it now. I agree, Xavier should've made a better showing of it as Wisconsin struggled all year. But again, the rigors of the tournament are not always kind to teams from conferences like the Big East or any conference - again, just not nearly enough good teams at the top. Sure, you'll get outliers like this year's nova where they win in spite of the lack of top echelon competition in conference, but that's not a recipe for year after year success.

Tournament has proven what we've always known, the ACC, especially after siphoning off the top of the old Big East, is by and far the best conference out there.
I agree the ACC is the best.

The new Big East is one the top conferences. Period, end of story. And, it's not just the excellent tourney results you need to spin away. IT'S ABOUT RESULTS ON THE COURT ALL YEAR. It's those pesky OOC results as well. The results of the games are what matter and the results this year tell any objective basketball fan that the Big East was one of the top three conferences. Where's the Big 10, Pac 12, SEC now? Big East is still playing.

And, tell me what happened to your theory about the Big East being too weak to prepare a team for a deep tournament run? Guess you need to find a new spin on that one. Oh, now it's "not a good recipe for success". How weak is that adjustment on the theory?

Just looked at the Final Four teams from the old Big East from 2000-2010 when they started to split. The Big East in five of those years didn't have anyone in the Final Four. Trying to diminish the accomplishments of the new Big East this year is an exercise in futility for the weak minded. You would be better off just admitting you were wrong and moving along. Maybe another trip to Florida would help.

I don't need to spin, you're doing a great job yourself. Three years, and only two teams make it as far as the Sweet 16 (no team made the Sweet 16 in 2014, and one made it each last year and this year). That's pretty bad that each year you have, max, one team in the Sweet 16. It's not as if the Big East hasn't gotten teams in or haven't got good seeds - they get plenty of teams in and they get favorable seeds and they've still crashed out. I don't really care how far one team goes - George Mason and VCU both went as far as nova has gone and no one would ever have said those year's how great the CAA was. And I like I said, you and other nova fans, in this thread, talked down the SEC when Kentucky went far and the rest of the conference crashed out just as the rest of the Big East did this year. This year was just like every other year - only 1 (max) Big East team could make it out of the first weekend. The fact that nova made it past the second weekend doesn't change that other inconvenient fact.

Go ahead, spin away.

It depends on where you draw the line for top conferences?

I don't agree that you can argue that the Big East is one of the top three conferences simply because they are one of three conferences with teams still playing. If that were true than the MVC was a top three conference in 2012/2013 and the CAA was a top three conference in 2005/2006. Having a team in the Final Four proves nothing about the strength of a conference from top to bottom.

I would argue that the Big 10 and Pac 12 are stronger top to bottom then the Big East. I would say that the Big East is on par with the SEC and slightly ahead of the A-10 and American.

Bottom line, this is a subjective argument and there is no absolute right answer. Your opinion isn't any more valid than mine or anyone else's.

Holy glare all over the court, batman! Did TBS not test the reflections from the scoreboard before the broadcast? That's distracting as hell. Court is ugly as shit too.

They finally turned off the scoreboard ring that was reflecting about halfway through the first half. That was obnoxious.

Don't look now but the Big East has a team in the final that is tearing through the tournament with a larger margin of victory than any team EVER!

What's really something is that Oklahoma played Villanova during the regular season and beat the Wildcats by 23 points (78-55).
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Crazy!

Big East. 8-4 in the tournament.

Nova shoots lights out almost as good as 1985! Second best shooting percentage ever in the final four .

Well, so much for my "OU wins it all" call. Villanova-North Carolina should be a good game. I'm not a Nova lover, but I'm not a Nova hater either.

Complete domination by Nova.

I do think that while they have really cut down on the hand checking throughout the tournament, they are now allowing a lot more physical contact by defenders. Defenders are using their bodies to bump, push and dry-hump the ball handlers and it is rarely being called. It's like watching a slightly kindler, gentler version of Bill Laimbeer and Dennis Rodman play defense. I was a physical basketball player and I loved going to the limits of physical contact when playing defense but it's gone too far in this tournament.

JAY WRIGHT COACH OF THE YEAR

Villanova basketball head coach Jay Wright, whose Wildcats will be playing for a National Championship as a 2-seed against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Monday, has been named the Naismith National Coach of the Year.
As head coach of 'Nova, he guided the Wildcats to their current 34-5 season record and the team's third consecutive BIG EAST conference regular season championship. Additionally, the team reached the top of the AP Poll for the first time in program history that they held the spot for three weeks.

Wright, who won the award in 2006, beat out Kansas's Bill Self, Indiana's Tom Crean, and Xavier's Chris Mack for the honor; he joins Mike Krzyzewski and John Calipari as the only coaches to win the award more than once.
