JALMOND poll (9-7)

Post by JALMOND »

I usually vote in the AGS poll, however this year I am not, due to the fact that I can't remember my password (among other things). I have constructed a poll that, if I was voting in AGS, I would have voted this way. I will post it here and be at the mercy of everyone here, instead of the Mods at AGS (I'm sure you all will let me know where I am way off). If you have constructed a poll, I welcome you to post it here, too. I'll post it before I post the Big Sky power rankings sometime on Mondays. Here is week 1.

This week (preseason)

1. Villanova (1)
2. Richmond (3)
3. Appalachian State (2)
4. Northern Iowa (4)
5. James Madison (5)
6. Montana (6)
7. Elon (9)
8. William & Mary (10)
9. Southern Illinois (8)
10. Wofford (7)
11. Weber State (11)
12. Central Arkansas (12)
13. Massachusettes (13)
14. North Dakota State (14)
15. South Carolina State (15)
16. Cal Poly (16)
17. Delaware (17)
18. New Hampshire (22)
19. South Dakota State (19)
20. Liberty (21)
21. Texas State (23)
22. McNeese State (18)
23. Montana State (20)
24. Georgia Southern (25)
25. Harvard (NR)

Dropped---Youngstown State (24)

Keep in mind that with any of the polls, the first few weeks are a work in progress.

YSU will find their way back into the Top 25 this year. They should win the next 5 games.

I watched a shitload of FCS games since Thursday and based solely on what I have seen so far...the top four are a toss up at this point. That Cadet kid for App is a real competitor and had he gotten that last completion I really think App would have won that game.

Richmond/Villanova had equally impressive wins and I have no problems with them being up where they are at.

UNI played with so much heart and were EQUAL to Iowa in every facet of the game. Great D, with the front 7 giving the Hawkeyes all they could handle and never knuckling under. The UNI offense was real solid and has some great play makers out there. Grace is his namesake under pressure.

I also watched EKU and was thoroughly impressed with their performance against IU. Except for a couple of bad breaks out there that game was theirs to win also. They looked pretty solid on D with some above avg. secondary play and good work by their front 7 also. I think you ought to keep an eye on EKU and see if they shouldn't replace a team in your poll because they looked like a top twenty to me after the first game.

Montana and Weber may both be a couple spots higher than they should be right now based on what they did this week. Montana has to get something from the QB spot ironed out. Both QB's looked good for only brief portions of the game. Neither one of them is throwing with conviction and both are not consistently setting their feet when they throw and are badly missing wide open receivers. If the foot work doesn't improve our passing game is really gonna suffer and we are gonna be in a lot of 3rd and longs situations considering that we are still very adept at false starts and various other procedural problems.

I did vote in the AGS poll, think it's my 4th year. Early polls are always a guess with teams playing up, playing down, etc., but it's something to do. My vote yesterday:

1. Richmond
2. Appalachian St.
3. Northern Iowa
4. Villanova
5. Southern Illinois
6. Montana
7. New Hampshire
8. James Madison
9. Weber St.
10. Cal Poly
11. Elon
12. Central Arkansas
13. Maine
14. Wofford
15. William & Mary
16. South Carolina St.
17. Massachusetts
18. McNeese St.
19. Montana St.
20. Eastern Washington
21. Delaware
22. Georgia Southern
23. Furman
24. Texas St.
25. South Dakota St.

I realize it's early and anything can happen, but I seriously doubt that 3 of the top 5 teams in the country reside in ONE conference. :| :| :|

I asked this on another thread. For the love of God, after Saturday, what is your justification for putting McNeese at 18 and TXST at 24?????

I asked on those too but nobody is giving me an answer. I know no one on here can answer for TSN or the coaches poll. I was just wondering if anyone can hazard a guess?

Reputation -
we have beaten them 4 of 5 since starting in 2004
2008 - they finished tied for 3rd (just), we went to the playoffs
They had to fight for their lives the last quarter while we had 2nd string in and out and let up
We were also without 5 starters (inc top RB and WR) and our K went out with a concussion.

I just want someone to tell me what, besides rep, it is....

Don't get your tit in a ringer, but what happened between the two teams head to head in the past has nothing to do with where they might end up in the FCS this year. Trust me, If TX St. performs I will raise them.................after all, they are Bobcats!!! :thumb:

GOKATS, that's 2 tits.

It is rep then because they were less than impressive in their DII win (IMHO ;) )

It just frustrates the hell out of me they got those votes when they had such a lousy showing. Wish I could post our coaches show (with highlights) for people to see; as I have done the past 5 seasons. Unfortunately, the channel that always broadcasts this has decided to take it to upper tier only...which I don't have.

Same as last year. We didn't even crack the top 25 until the end of the season and didn't finish ahead of McNeese until after the playoffs. Not that things dictated we should (though others were ranked with that record) but we were 8-4 at the end of the season and the "declared" (happy fellas?) CC. They were 4th (ok tied for 3rd but with a cancelled OOC game) in the SLC for cripes sake...and we did beat them when they were ranked 5th.

just sayin'

Do you feel my frustration?

History, homerism, and inertia. Traditional polls and rankings feed on last week's, last month's, even last year's mistakes, using a curious branch of fucked-up scattershot transitive logic that overreacts to wins and losses in the short term. Any system that insists on measuring apples against oranges using faulty comparative reasoning inevitably includes the occasional lemon as the 18th-best team in the country.

I kept McNeese in the top 25 because they did win the game. I dropped them for keeping it close, but I could not drop them out as they did win. I did move Texas State past them. The first few weeks are kind of a feeling out process. Check the polls in October and you may have a clearer picture.
