Back to the Top? ASU Has All the Ingredients

Post by Appaholic »

Everything didn't go according to form for Appalachian State last season.

After winning the Football Championship Subdivision national title three years in a row, the Mountaineers had the wheels come off another title run in a surprisingly one-sided loss to Richmond in the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs.

The team still had its successes -- an 11-win season and fourth straight Southern Conference title -- but left its big-prize goal undone. That, players say, will provide a bit of extra incentive for this year's team, which, on paper, looks as good as any to date.

The Mountaineers return 16 of 22 starters, which in itself should bode well for another title run.

"We honestly think we can go undefeated," said quarterback Armanti Edwards, the team's record-setting catalyst who has gained national attention as an elusive runner and accurate passer. "This is one year we think we can only beat ourselves out there."
