Vandal fans please note

Post by JALMOND »

Benton County, Oregon (Corvallis), home of Oregon State University has announced that they will require all attendees to any public events outdoors to wear masks, ages 5 and up. This includes all OSU activities including football games.

https://democratherald.com/news/local/b ... 1e41c.html

Oregon State will host Idaho on September 18. Vandal fans coming to the game will need to mask up.

This is a county ordinance, not a state one (so far). This does not include Lane County (U of O) nor Washington County (Portland State-Hillsboro Stadium).

The state of Oregon will enact an outdoor mask requirement effective 8-27. Anyone attending an outdoor event where social distancing is not possible will be required to wear a mask regardless of vaccine status. This includes all football games played in the state of Oregon, including Portland State football games.

Why boo? I would think as a follower of Christ you would want to do everything possible to insure the health and safety of everyone.

Sorry. It started as a notice to Idaho fans who would be attending the game at Oregon State. Now the whole state is requiring masks.

That's not how it should work. If you're sick, you say home. If you're not sick, you do what you want. One-size fits all "solutions" don't work.

True, so shouldn’t each county be allowed to set their own rules based on the prevalence of disease and their risk aversion?

The county level is probably the best level in terms of balancing personal freedom with the capability of keeping track of what's happening with the spread. In CA, for example, when the state had exclusive control, they were forcing small, isolated counties to enforce the same draconian measures as inner cities. That's ridiculous....

Depends on disease spread and mobility of that county. Rural Grant County hosted the Watershed Festival at the Gorge and hundreds of cases were taken home to counties throughout the state.

One of the bigger outbreaks since spring in Oregon was traced back to the Pendleton Whiskey Fest in rural eastern Oregon (Umatilla County).

That may be so, but if you're talking about a county isolated in the mountains with no events that would attract outsiders, there's no legitimate reason to impose draconian measures best suited for a congested inner city on an area like that. The Left loves to push the from-the-start case totals to scare us into submission, but when those totals after more than a year and a half amount to less than 200, you have no business pushing those measures on that county....

Just noticed that Idalol has a cross-border game to open the season. Simon Fraser (a D-II school in B.C.) is coming to town. The Clan had better get all their games in this year; they only have nine on the schedule....

And in general they’re not. Draconian measures, if they are imposed are used when hospital systems are jeopardized. Small case counts can be significant for rural healthcare.

Kootenai County, ID is a slightly larger example.
