UNI Panthers @ Iowa State Cyclones
Aug 31, 2019
Ames, Iowa 11 AM

INDICATED WINNER:
UNI PANTHERS
SPREAD: UNI -1
OVER/UNDER: 49
MYTHICAL SCORE: UNI 25 ISU 24

Tickets are available and well worth the $65 to sit on the 50:

These early games are fun. Some of these match-ups are dream games. This is one of them.

UNI has the perfect set-up, alternating between Iowa and Iowa State. This year promises to be a whale of a game.

These teams are equally matched on the field. At the front office Iowa State, for the past several seasons, has been spending above the FBS Median in football and at or above the Big 12 median.

UNI is a very frugal and very efficient football program. UNI is a school that’s good at football and gets its moneys worth, but they are not big spenders. For the past several seasons they have been spending at or below the FCS median.

My big worry is not Iowa State. They are good. They are a Jr/Sr team playing in the Big 12. They would certainly be in contention for the MVFC title.

Another thing: They have to be careful, they play Iowa the following week. If they are not focused on the Panthers it will cost them.

My big worry is the slow start UNI seems to have. UNI is an annual contender for the MVFC title but always seems to start slow. That’s the problem here. It’s the first game for the Panthers.

With the outcome based on last years performance your guess is as good as mine. It really does look like a toss-up, but we are taking the Panthers. They have the motivation, the players and the coaching to get it done.

This is another game that has a high potential for miss-pricing on five dimes. We will have our eye on the odds hoping to pick up a boat-load of points. We will report back on the odds when/if posted.

This promises to be a very good football game.

The UNI roster is pretty much Jr/Soph with some critical Sr leadership but there wasn’t an obvious QB.

At 5dimes:

UNI now an 18.5 point underdog. O/U 49.5

Is there something wrong with the Panthers this year or is the slow start reputation showing up in the odds

If you take ISU to win outright you have to put up $1,275 to win $100.

$100 on UNI wins $625

With the GAM indicating a 1 pt UNI win Points and UNI looks tempting.

Looks like tickets are no problem use link above

Didn’t see it mentioned. Game is nationally televised noon ECB on FS1. I’ll be at the JMU @ WVU game (2 PM) but have it set to record).

Iowa State is better than they have been in years too. Will be tough for UNI and the Farley QB rotation to beat this year.

Farley has picked a QB ahead of the game. Hopefully he plays great and Farley sticks with him. The optimism around this team is building but this isn't the same Iowa State we used to beat.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

Like to see UNI beat them, but like you said, it's not the same Iowa State.

A win would be awesome but I'll be satisfied if we play well, especially at QB, and come out of the game healthy. Winning our other OOC games and doing well in MVFC play is more important than winning this game.

Sagarin has them at 29 - 80.04 This would make them the favorite in the MVFC but it would not be in the bag under any circumstances.

UNI is 94 with a 62.84. The Panthers have MVFC title aspirations.

Panthers are 17.20 underdogs on a neutral field.

UNI did better last season against the FCS than Iowa State did against their FBS opponents. I don't know if UNI has slipped or what has happened in the off season at ISU.

If UNI can have the success against ISU it has against its average FCS opponent this is a good game. UNI -1.

UNI +18.5 isn't looking too bad.

There are talking heads that think Iowa State has an outside shot at winning the Big 12. Campbell is doing a great job there and is getting mentions for NFL jobs. This isn't the same Iowa State as years past.

Weather could be a small factor in this game although they've backed off the rain like they were predicting earlier in the week. As much as I'd like to see UNI with the W I don't see it happening. As has been noted this isn't the same ISU.

People are losing faith in UNI with the odds expanding to 19.5 underdogs from 17.5. That looks generous. It’s clear from the GAM, without factoring in any changes from last season, this is an even game. Is 19.5 enough to compensate UNI for any short comings?

The over under at the crowd sampler 5=dimes is 39.5 with a 19.5 spread. They are looking at a 34-15 game Cyclones. The GAM says its UNI -1 with an O/U of 49 something like 25-24 UNI.

Factor 1 Spread: Considering off season changes and a little over optimism from the ISU camp the truth is most likely in between and 19.5 should be more than enough. Juice is 20.

Factor 2 Over/Under: The over under is something else. We are taking over.

Factor 3 straight-up: On the straight-up we take ISU.

11am kick off. FS1. Hope to go 3-0 on the 3 factors and be up 440-0 on the crowd samplers.

(Teams like ISU and Minnesota play in the big leagues and have a good strength of schedule. They get ranked higher than they deserve because of that. They can also gain a lot of momentum in pre-season polls if they "look good". ISU never really looks good. Glory days long gone the only reason they are there is budget and enrollment. They would just be a good MVFC team most years, even with their budget and enrollment. Today we will see how they match up this season. They "look good" again)

Great game. ISU takes 3OT to beat UNI.

How can you be a FBS school in a P5 conference and not have a kicker?

Because UNI signed him this year....

Oh and the back up true Freshman kicker that will redshirt then be the punter was also considered a 5* top 40 kicker nationally

I know, but you'd think with all the kicking problems ISU has had the last few years they would have made it a point to find somebody.

And if I hear one more Cyclone fan bitching about the refs I'm gonna go postal on somebody.

I got UNI +19.5. Scored 210 back on 100 Thanks GAM! We gave the Vegas boys a little hair cut. :)

Got all 3 factors for 3 as well.
