I also saw the Post and Courier said Citadel is considering tearing down their visitor side of the stadium to redo it. Good idea....if they take that side down....can we have it (
) our stadium could use the seats!

I've said all along that CSU not being on the schedule was purely a matter of strains in our SoCon scheduling - which was true. Note that as soon as we got our flexibility back CSU is back

Well its a good thing. It brings a lot of local attention to both schools. A lot of healthy competitive energy. And two really good teams.CID1990 wrote:I've said all along that CSU not being on the schedule was purely a matter of strains in our SoCon scheduling - which was true. Well if the new Citadel visitor side is as nice as the home side it will be a fantastic looking visitor side and boost the stadium even more.Ibanez wrote:I wonder how many dead soldiers and sailors they'll find.bucs90 wrote:I also saw the Post and Courier said Citadel is considering tearing down their visitor side of the stadium to redo it. Which sucks for CSU because our property tax bill will go up......

None. It's a 4 game deal. Probably will renew it again after that.
They need to come up with some kind of trophy Iike Chadwell said. The Mayors Cup. North Charleston and Charleston mayors can bet a dinner on the game like others do in other series. There's a lot of potentially fun stuff that the area can do with this series.

They are talking about tearing down the current visitors' side, not replacing it.

Re: BREAKING: Citadel vs Charleston Southern RENEWED! 4 games. 2018 & on...
Citadel AD on local radio now discussing the deal. It's a pretty good and fair deal. Citadel gets all 4 at home. He said it simply made sense bc BOTH teams would make more $$$. Citadel typically gives opponents 350 or so tickets. The deal will give CSU 3000 tickets to sell and CSU keeps 100% of that revenue. CSU home games are $10 I think. Citadels I believe are $20 maybe? So CSU will pocket that $$ while having no expenses.
He quickly side stepped the question about a CSU home game. I know CSU wanted at least a 3 away/1 home deal. But all in all...I think the deal The Citadel offered is very very fair. We get the game we want. They get it all at home. Fans of both teams win because hey...game is happening, and we won't be scrambling for tickets this time. We wanted the home game and we got it twice. As much as I love the CSU football program....they "other side" of campus has little interest in truly investing in the stadium, so I'm happy just seeing the game is back.

Its gonna be one of the best stadiums in FCS once they do the visitors side.CitadelGrad wrote:They are talking about tearing down the current visitors' side, not replacing it.

Of course they want all 4 at home. The Citadel has a larger fan base and Johnson Hagood has the capacity that Buccaneer Stadium just doesn't.bucs90 wrote:Citadel AD on local radio now discussing the deal. Both true. Getting them at our place was more of a symbolic thing and we won both times. Yes I agree. Now it's fine to play them all there. The whole goal was always to get close-to-equal media attention for us and we've done that.Ibanez wrote:Of course they want all 4 at home. When the day comes that Chadwell leaves, I'm hoping our DC Chad Staggs gets the head job. Honestly as good as Chadwell has been, Staggs and that defense are a HUGE reason for the success. CSU had some years that the D was very good in the past (2000, 2005) and it slipped. Nice that the D is back and better than ever.

He has done more. Honestly each of CSUs head coaches took the program to new heights.Ibanez wrote:Chadwell has done more in 4 years than Mills ever did. Truth. Chadwell should get a statue.bucs90 wrote:

Dowd: Took them from 1989 club team to D3....to D1-AA in 1993 (horrible seasons)....to 1999/2000 when they were around .500 and beat Liberty for first time and pushing teams like Samford, SC State and Wofford to the buzzer or OT (never did "learn to win the close ones", that was Dowds biggest issue, couldn't pull the close ones out)
Mills: Took the torch from 35 scholarships and Dowd era to 65 scholarships and won Big South in 2005. Really got CSU over the hump from 2004-2008. Ended bad though just lost energy.
Chadwell.....enough said. We know where his staff has taken it. He's done FAR more than anything the other 2 did....but in fairness...he's got far more to work with also due to progress made during those previous 2 coaches time.
I applaud all 3 for taking CSU from where it was up to the next plateau. It's not an easy place to do it and all three broke barriers.

We won't be able to match what he could make somewhere bigger. Our wild cards however are that he is a very religious guy and he and his family LOVE Charleston. So we have 2 non financial things on our side. But it won't be enough. I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up at Wofford when Mike Ayers retires since he runs an option offense also. Or...if things don't improve at his alma mater ETSU maybe he holds out for that job.

but in the end a coach is going to do what is right for his family and that means $$$
Wofford wont pay enough to dislodge Chadwell from Chas. When the bigger schools come knocking look for it to come from the CAA or similar.

Re: BREAKING: Citadel vs Charleston Southern RENEWED! 4 games. 2018 & on...
All true except Wofford. I'd bet they can pay much more. CSU head coaches make very little compared to other FCS. Dowd and Mills both made like 80k I believe. Can't imagine Chadwell is much higher. With inflation he's probably like 110 or 120. What's that...half of what Citadel pays? Wofford could easily top it. That's pure speculation obviously bc Ayers has plenty of time left there.CID1990 wrote:Mike Houston's family loved Charleston too, and Houston himself really liked the atmosphere and military aspect of El Cidbucs90 wrote:

I agree w CAA types. I don't think Chadwell is the type to take an assistant job at a big FBS school like Higgins did.
