more rumblings about the big shake up
Everyone talks about the CAA breakup and the new AmericaEast etc...
Well an article here is talking about Hofstra interest in a move to possibly AmericaEast which could help start the football league?

Bah, a bunch of schools in the CAA FCS conference play for different conferences during Basketball season... besides, the CAA would just absorb any team that wanted to form the America East in our end goal of obtaining all bids to the playoffs.

Re: more rumblings about the big shake up
Interesting read.
Economics may force some of this as well. Makes no sense for Northeastern and Hofstra to be in a league that stretches to Atlanta.
Northeastern did have a good season, but couldn't overcome the Virginia tourney.

Re: more rumblings about the big shake up
I still think Northeastern and Hofstra in AmericaEast would make a lot of sense. It would spawn AE football and hopefully Hockey also. It would also help realign the northeast a little.

Re: more rumblings about the big shake up
You also have to consider Hofstra's basketball downfall in the past 8 years to losing the coach that built up that program and got them into the NCAA tourney two straight years. I don't know if the writer can attribute this to only moving over to the CAA.

I am sure that is more of a reason, but I am sure that the affiliation has had some effect.JMU DJ wrote:You also have to consider Hofstra's basketball downfall in the past 8 years to losing the coach that built up that program and got them into the NCAA tourney two straight years. would this allow UMBC to leave the AmEast - where it really doesn't fit, and joing CAA where it does?

America East has one team south of New England/New York - UMBC:
America East
Vermont
Binghamton
Boston U.
Stony Brook
New Hampshire
UMBC
Albany
Maine
Hartford
CAA has two teams in NY/NE: Hofstra and Northeastern, after that Drexel and Delaware are the northern outposts
Colonial Athletic
VCU
George Mason
Old Dominion
Northeastern
Hofstra
Drexel
James Madison
Georgia St
Delaware
Towson
William & Mary
N.C. Wilmington
Re: more rumblings about the big shake up
put the CAA at 11, so they would probably look for a new 12, and the AEC would have 10 which is a good number. Especially for basketball season. Or the CAA could also possibly lose another team G State to a "fbs" conference and they will also be at 10.

LeMoyne(No FB) in NY (Syracuse area) is supposed to move to D-I after the moratorium and is looking at the AEC.
Ga. St. could leave the CAA soon. The CAA is a better overall conf. than the AEC you don't usually see a school step back no matter how bad they suck in the better conf. VMI is the last step down school I could think of. ETSU was a different situation with dropping of FB.
AEC could still have FB without Hofstra and N'eastern

that cry baby bitch's article is flawed. CAA has gotten muli bids recently. George Mason made the final four as an at large. They've gotten 2 in a few times the last 5-6 years.

I don't know what will happen with football and the CAA...something will change, but what will happen is anybodys guess...
One thing I am willing to predict...AE will not become the all sport conference for UMass...

Our hockey team is where it wants to be (Hockey East) and Lacrosse (ECAC Lacrosse) and Football (CAA)...
Everything else is A-10, including basketball...and IMHO, the way a conference slips to mid-major status is by not playing up to it's level, which the A-10 basketball has not the last few years (except maybe Xavier)...

Why not go AE and have the AE sponsor hockey? It'd be a good first step to "mainstreaming" hockey when a regular conference sponsors it.Col Hogan wrote:TwinTownBisonFan wrote:

I get Mass doesn't want to do that, and probably the why, but it would seem to me that they could get a lot of mileage out regional conference affiliation, since they don't seem remotely inclined to move up to Big East level competition. (and with BC... why would they?)

Re: more rumblings about the big shake up
Hockey and lacrosse are almost as important as basketball and football (basketball 1A and football 1B)...so if we're going to have an "all-sports" conference, the competition has to be able to match what we have right now...TwinTownBisonFan wrote:Why not go AE and have the AE sponsor hockey? I know it's a mess with all our different conferences...and having one would be sweet...

Myopia - also called near- or short-sightedness, is a refractive defect of the eye in which collimated light produces image focus in front of the retina when accommodation is relaxed. Those with myopia see nearby objects clearly but distant objects appear blurred. As relates too discussions of college sports this frequently called Syntaxia or Txterrorism...kemajic wrote:This is a football forum.
ya see... it turns out that an alarming number of things that AREN'T about football... in fact... ARE about football. Conference shakeups... chief among them.
but hey... if you want to breakdown ASU's third quarter in their playoff loss 5 months ago... feel free to start a thread. However... CS has always been the delightful home of fans who are capable of seeing the forest for the trees... rather than writing 10,000 words about the bark.

conference shake ups are one of my favorite things to talk about. Which has a lot to do with football and basketball.
the last thing I remember about the fcs if we are doing a football breakdown was Richmond coming back to beat Montana for the title. Why would you wanna revisit that, kem?

If you remember so little about FCS it's curious you're on here; I didn't notice any mention of conference shake-ups in your post.Fresno St. Alum wrote:conference shake ups are one of my favorite things to talk about. Which has a lot to do with football and basketball.

It's fun playing for the national championship, even when you lose. But how would you know? You don't get there with 7-6 records. 14-2 and #2 in the nation is not bad for a team not even picked to win the BSC after losing 25 to graduation. I don't know any Griz fans, players or coaches hanging their heads. My money would have been on Richmond against Fresno at the end of the year.
