Tonight another potentially dangerous D-II for Sam Houston

Post by JohnStOnge »

Didn't look at it until I saw that Texas A&M Commerce at Sam Houston State is on TV tonight. Looked up some info and saw that Texas A&M Commerce is 7-1 and ranked 5th in the D2 Football.com poll. Also the 2nd rated D-II in Massey Ratings. Texas A&M Commerce is actually rated slightly higher than Sam Houston State is in the Massey Ratings. By Massey Ratings, Sam Houston State is a 2 point (1.7) favorite tonight but only because the Bearkats are the home team. The predicted score, to the nearest whole point for each team, is Sam Houston State 37, Texas A&M Commerce 35.

And Sam Houston State has a big game at McNeese State next week so ordinarily I'd say they might be looking past this game. Don't think Keeler will have any problem convincing the players that a D-II can beat them, though, after the way Colorado State Pueblo beat the snot out of them last year. Interesting match up. Think I'll watch it at least unless and until Sam Houston State jumps on them and it gets out of hand.

But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Well it was a competitive game. I think the key point was after Texas A&M Commerce scored to make it 24 all they tried an onside kick and it didn't work. Sam Houston State got the ball at at the Commerce 44, drove down, and scored on fourth and goal from the one.

Another key point after that was when Sam Houston State was leading 31 - 24 Commerce had a completion down to the Sam Houston 3 yard line but it got called back for illegal receiver downfield because the slot receiver lined up too close to the line of scrimmage. The drive ended up stalling, Sam Houston State got the ball back, and scored again to pretty much put the game away.
