ESPN HATES FCS
ESPN HATES FCS
I know this isn't new....but I called ESPN radio today after they kept saying that "College football finally start today" to tell them that College football actually started on their network last Saturday with Brent Mussburger calling the game....I got on air, and they laughed at me and said "only montana thinks this, we are talking about real football"

Re: ESPN HATES FCS
Only Montana thinks that? Is that why Bob Stitt has been on every national sports talk radio show in the past week? Is that why the game outdrew the fucking New York Yankmees game? Is that why the Nebraska and Texas A&M coaching staffs (you know, REAL football teams) were watching in rapt attention as the Griz marched down the field on that last drive (with the A&M players waiting on the field for practice to start, minus their coaches?). Or is that why the NFL's San Francisco 49ers players were all gathered around a TV in their locker room watching the game?SACCAT wrote:I know this isn't new....but I called ESPN radio today after they kept saying that "College football finally start today" to tell them that College football actually started on their network last Saturday with Brent Mussburger calling the game....I got on air, and they laughed at me and said "only montana thinks this, we are talking about real football"
I fucking HATE announcers like that (which is exactly how Colin Cowturd reacts to FCS football)...

Well, technically if you bring in all levels of college football, NAIA got the jump on us. Dickinson State and MSU-Northern actually played each other the week before Montana/NDSU. But I do see your point.CID1990 wrote:You should have repliedSACCAT wrote:I know this isn't new....but I called ESPN radio today after they kept saying that "College football finally start today" to tell them that College football actually started on their network last Saturday with Brent Mussburger calling the game....I got on air, and they laughed at me and said "only montana thinks this, we are talking about real football"

You should of told them that semi-pro ball doesn't have an official start date. DO you guys really get upset over this? The VAST majority of people only think about our schools when they play the #1, #2, and #3 seeds in the NCAA tournament in March.
Who gives a shit?
FCS IS a lesser form of college football. Doesn't stop me from watching and following whats happening.
A handful of teams will catch an FBS team unprepared in the next couple of weeks. A few of those might actually pull a upset. But make no doubt, we are cupcakes in comparison.

I wouldn't use the word upset. More like annoyed. The comments are unprofessional for a sports broadcaster as well as inaccurate. Plain and simple. Have enough knowledge to do your job or shut the fuck up.andy7171 wrote:DO you guys really get upset over this? Musburger and Palmer did a great job in that regard during the broadcast. I wasn't necessarily a fan of theirs before, but I am now.kalm wrote:I wouldn't use the word upset. More like annoyed. Did you watch the game on TV? You would know if you did. Those two failed abortions should be charged with assault for the how they ruined the game. I watched the game online, slowed it up so it would sync with Mick.Grizalltheway wrote:How so? Yes, I watched the replay. I've also watched a lot of other FCS games broadcast by ESPN, and this one was much better than most.grizzaholic wrote:Did you watch the game on TV? That game gave Tennessee a recruiting boost for players wanting to play in the Smokey Mountains.

If it doesn't have what's his face (former Howard and NFL quarterback who's name I forget maybe Jay somebody) who calls a bunch of the playoff games it's already a step up.Grizalltheway wrote:Yes, I watched the replay. Re: ESPN HATES FCS
Depends on what FCS team is being compared to what FBS team. As you know there's overlap in caliber between the subdivisions. And conferences like the Sun Belt, MAC, and now even CUSA are very close to FCS in caliber. In fact by Sagarin's conference strength ratings the Missouri Valley was stronger than those three FBS leagues as well as the American Athletic last year.A handful of teams will catch an FBS team unprepared in the next couple of weeks. A few of those might actually pull a upset. But make no doubt, we are cupcakes in comparison.
Talking about Big 5 conference FBS teams is different than talking about the other five conferences. In fact I think there's more overall difference between the Big 5 conference teams and teams form the other 5 conferences in FBS than there is between the other 5 conferences in FBS and the top 5 leagues in FCS.

That wasn't the point. It was their diction, one person said 'they are calling a football game, not narrating D-Day.' Their shitty voices and their blah blah blah just pissed me off. Fuck them. Didn't like Musburger before, and don't like him now. The other guy, Mr. Onefootinthegrave, was probably worse.Vidav wrote:grizzaholic wrote:
