Re: CAA Week 6 Prediction Thread
My pessimism meter is running at an all time high for JMU. Bad coaching decisions, bad discipline, and stupid mistakes (which is a reflection of the coaching) have been the problem. Its certainly not because of a lack of talent.
The glimmer of hope if that after the 1st 4 games with JMU's new 3-4 defense being a disaster, esp against the run, capped off by giving up 49 points to VU (the most to a I-AA since 97') and 35 2nd half points (the most to anyone period since at least 97', Withers, a former DC, pledged to become fully involved with the defense. Against UD JMU did one of their few sensible things this season and scrapped the disasterous 3-4 and went back to their old 4-2-5. Also finally got Gage Steele, their 3rd team ALl CAA LB from last season, back starting (#33, their only white guy on the starting defense). He'd been injured during the summer camp and had dressed but played very little during the 1st 4 games because he wasn't 100%. Other than UD's 1st play (a 70+ yd TD off off a screen) and their last play of regulation (an 86 yd TD off of a short pass) the defense was pretty decent.
But the offense regressed...
So until I have reason to believe otherwise, I am going with Albany, with inferior talent but presumably superior coaching, at home over JMU. Maybe I'll change my mind by Saturday...

Re: CAA Week 6 Prediction Thread
The Tribe might hold Villanova down in 3 weeks, but I wouldn't guarantee it with how the defense is currently playing. We were extremely lucky to beat Stony Brook. We gave up lots of yards and 2 really big plays including a TD with just over a minute to go. We need a bye to get some of our players back from injury. We had 7 starters out 2 weeks ago and have been missing our best defensive player for the last 2 weeks. I haven't been following Delaware much other than the postings from 93Hen. I can't forget how Delaware has always been and thus expect them to be at or near the top at season's end. Good teams will continue to improve and will be playing their best in Nov. and Dec.. As for JMU, no matter how they do in the next month, they will cause significant havoc for the Tribe in early November. Plus, it might be the last meeting of the two if JMU moves up. Why anyone would want to do that in the current climate is a mystery, though. I already miss ODU and their top 5 CAA program. Now, they are totally irrelevant to me.

Re: CAA Week 6 Prediction Thread
JMU won on last 2nd FG 31-28. Some of the worst GD officiating I have ever seen for both teams. We're 2 horrible calls that led to Albany TDs, one a PI call where the contact was questionable and the ball was compltely uncatchable, and one where JMU stripped the UA QB and recovered the ball and the referee said his arm was going forward (it wasn't). After the strip a JMU defender had scooped up the ball and was headed in the other direction with it when the officials were blowing the whistle...UA scored on the exit play..14 point swing..
But that was trivial compared to the 1st qtr horrendous targeting call on JMU's best player on defense, pre season AA rSr Dean Marlowe. The game wasn't televised, but the replay on the very large UA jumbotron showed that there wasn't head to head- he was leading with his shoulder after the receiver had run a couple of steps with the ball. The officials ejected him without reviewing the play. Everyone watching the streaming said it was a horrible call. JMU then tweeted that it was a reviewable call at halftime. Halftime? Why the f would you wait till halftime? Then the JMU beat writer tweeted after the half that it wasn't reviewable because there was no replay. Well then WTF was that replay they showed on the jumbotron that showed him leading with his shoulder?
JMU defense is bad enough without the refs unjustly flagging and ejecting JMU's best player. True Fr replaced Marlowe and between him and the other 2 true Fr in the secondary the JMU secondary looked lost out there. I was pissed off about that the whole game. With competent officiating JMU wins by 2-3 TDs...

That's why I had to walk away. I was spending time and funds and then I look on the field and the players don't care. No energy. When I watched one player look back and smirk at a guy that yelled down to tell the players to get fired up I was done for good.89Hen wrote:I was driving past Newark at 3:00 and was trying to figure out how I could stop for the game, but jr had a homecoming to go to back in VA.
