Big South Week #4 Predicitions
Big South Week #4 Predicitions
Monmouth @ Duquesne
Coastal Carolina @ Florida A&M
Presbyterian & NC State
Charleston Southern vs The Citadel - Honestly, I have no idea. This game is such a toss up.
Gardner-Webb vs Wofford
Liberty vs Bryant
Monmouth and Duquesne are 2-2 in the past 4 years. Duq has had a rough start so I thinkthis can be anyone's game. I'm going for Monmouth overall. Last week with about 6.5 yds per carry, they put up almost 300 yds against Wagner. I can see them doing it again. Coastal is on a winning streak. They do well against schools like SC State and Florida. Presby got seriously lucky last weekend, i don't see that success continuing. Liberty and Wofford should easily win.

Coastal and Liberty will win easy.
I predict GWU upsets Woffors...again. PC loses a money game. Ill take Monmouth to win.
CSU vs Citadel is a toss up. On paper Citadel should win. And if my dogs life was bet...id take Citadel because CSUs offense has sputtered this year. We'll see. God help em if the lose at CSU though haha.

I think GWU will beat an overconfident Wofford this weekend. I think Citadel is getting pissed off with their losses so I think they'll play aggressively and take CSU. But you can't take CSU lightly, despite their play at Campbell during the first half.
Re: Big South Week #4 Predicitions
Yep. Citadel players are going to be highly motivated by revevnge, and out of desperation to not go 0-3. Hope CSU doesnt get distracted by what will be a relatively wild scene for a typical CSU home game.Beachdude wrote:bucs90 wrote:Coastal and Liberty will win easy.

I like CSUs chances. Offense has sputtered at times but when they're on they look good. Just need to execute and they will be ok. Defense, well, what can you say - they are solid.
New QB has ability to make big plays with his arm & legs. If the recievers can run solid routes it'll be fun.

Re: Big South Week #4 Predicitions
The CSU defense is legit. It has the chance to be the top defense in the Big South.
While the offense has appeared to sputter, don't be fooled. I believe the coaching staff has been treating the first 3 games as somewhat of a "preseason" since they were against lesser opponents. There are some young guys that I believe they have been treating like moving parts to see who fits best where and who is going to be best for what they want to do moving forward from this point on.
Austin Brown is a solid QB. You can tell he has competed on the FBS level. He has an FBS arm. You can see him work through his progressions as he drops back. When he lets it go there is very little air under it. He throws it directly to his target and has shown an ability to drop it in right over the defender where it needs to be.
The RBs are deep. Reyes is the work horse. They will feed the beast. You can count on that. Then when the defense tries to load the box, don't be surprised to see one of the other backs bounce it out and get down the field.
The Bucs know they are not respected. They are tired of it. They are still trying to earn respect and are determined to do so. They know Citadel doesn't want to come to CSU. They know that Citadel thinks they are too good to come to CSU and are "above" playing on our field. I know the coaches will have them ready to go.

Re: Big South Week #4 Predicitions
Good points you made. Brown is a really good QB for FCS. I saw he was a starter at UAB, so he has FBS level ability. I agree Reyes is a beast. You made a great point about the coaches maybe not opening the offense up a whole lot these 3 games. If so, that's smart. Opponents do a lot of film scouting, and if CSU played it vanilla to prevent Citadel from getting a whole lot of stuff to study on film, that's smart. We'll see. Nice to see a few WR's working their way into playmaker position. The defense has played very well. They'll need to be outstanding Saturday, because all triple option teams are tough to defend.BJuice wrote:

You're right. Many Citadel fans think playing CSU, at all, is below them, and playing AT CSU is like a slap in the face. I've heard it in person from coworkers who went there, and they weren't joking. It'll be the most intense game ever played on that field, with the possible exception of the unofficial 2005 conference championship game when the Coastal/CSU winner that day would decide the ring.
This day has been a long time coming at CSU. A LOT of young men have put in a lot of work to slowly build this program up to where it is, and where it still has a long way to go. The Citadel in the 1990's refused to play CSU at all (they were really bad in the late 90's, couldn't risk a loss). CSU never had lights, an no one ever thought they would. They didn't have a winning season until the 2000's.
But now...CSU is 13-3 since the start of the 2013 season. The Citadel is coming TO CSU. At night. For many programs, this wouldn't mean much. But for CSU, Saturday is a chance to take a big step forward....another step in a 20 year long series of little and big steps.

Re: Big South Week #4 Predicitions
I agree. I know all about the football history at CSU. I went there from 1994-1998, and graduated in 1998. I've been going to football games there since 1994. I've probably been to 85% of all of the home games since 1994, even when it meant I was one of only about 20 other students when I was a student there. I sat through many HOT and miserable days where I watched the guys on the field take severe beatings.bucs90 wrote:BJuice wrote: You're right. Yes, there is quite a way to go. It is good to see the wheels in motion and moving toward where we need to be. There is a vision. There always has been, but now money, brick, and mortar are being placed with that vision to make changes and upgrades.
If this Coach Chadwell and his current staff continue to have success, I know it will be difficult to keep them; however, I hope they stay long enough to see the vision through and finish the task.
One game at a time. This week it is Citadel, and I can't wait!
Re: Big South Week #4 Predicitions
Nice! I remember those late 90s teams slowly improving that program. They'd never won more than 1-2 games a year and against almost all D2 teams. But 3-8 in 1998, 5-6 in 1999, and 5-6 in 2000 with that darn overtime loss @ Samford. They beat several FCS teams, even shutout Liberty 25-0 in 2000, played Wofford and Elon very close. And ever since then its been steady improvement. Those late 90s guys from 97-2000 really helped kinda jumpstart a dead program.BJuice wrote:I agree. I know all about the football history at CSU. SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Re: Big South Week #4 Predicitions
Monmouth vs. Duquesne
The Hawks are making an example of their former NEC rivals as they move to full scholarship football. They keep the ball rolling in the first of 10 straight to finish the season
Coastal Carolina vs. Florida A&M
The boys from Myrtle Beach kept their roll going with a win over South Carolina State, but were outgained in the process. The Rattlers will want to make a statement in the shadow of Doak Campbell Stadium, but CCU makes it 4 in a row and continues on a collision course with Liberty in November
Presbyterian vs. NC State
Three words: Presby gets crushed...
The Citadel vs. Charleston Southern
Ive read a ton of chatter from both sides for this one. This is the biggest game at home for the Bucs, but the Fighting Citdogs get their revenge
Wofford vs. Gardner-Webb
The battle of the pups went the way of the Runnin Bulldogs last year, but with the offensive struggles G-W has had with Kenny Cook injured, I think the Terriers get payback as well
Bryant vs. Liberty
This one probably is tied with CSU vs The Citadel for game of the week in the conference. The Bulldogs from New England are 3-0 and off to one of their best starts since transitioning to Division I, complete with their first top 25 ranking. Liberty Iis back in the rankings (away from AGS) for the first time since 2011 and hopes to improve to 5-0 at Williams Stadium against the Northeast Conference.
If the Flames get off to a good and fast start, say 21-0 like last week against D2 Brevard, they can break the Bulldogs and win easily. if the score stays below the 20s and the deficit under 10 points, it could favor the visitors. I think that while the massive (in comparison to crowds Bryant has faced before) audience will not necessarily generate points, I do think it will play a role (contrary to the thoughts of one of the NEC posters on this board) and the Flames win by 13
