2013 (Redshirt Sophomore): Started all 12 games at wide receiver ... Hauled in a team-leading 51 receptions for a career-high 834 yards ... Matched WCU's 30-year old school single-season record for receiving touchdowns in a season set by Eric Rasheed back in 1983 with 12... Named second team All-Southern Conference by both the league's head coaches and voting media ... Earned first team All-SoCon accolades as selected by College Sports Madness ... Career: After having his 2013 season limited to nine games because of a broken fibula, McDonald now has 178 tackles in 36 collegiate games (4.9 per game), with five interceptions and 16 passes broken up. Before arriving at Eastern, he had 135 tackles in 27 career games at UCLA, plus four interceptions and 14 passes broken up. He is the son of six-time NFL All-Pro safety Tim McDonald, who is currently the defensive backs coach for the New York Jets where he coached former Eagle Isaiah Trufant (2002-05) in the 2013 season. Tevin’s brother, Tim, Jr., (goes by T.J.), was a senior All-America safety at USC in 2012 and was drafted in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft by St. Louis. Tevin was with Eastern during 2013 spring practices after getting dismissed from UCLA’s squad for violating team policy.

2014: Listed as the starter at free safety on the preseason depth chart. He was one six Eagles selected to the preseason All-Big Sky Conference team as selected by a panel of the league’s media representatives. Beyond Sports Network selected him to its preseason All-Big Sky Conference team.

2013: Earned third team All-Big Sky honors. Started eight of EWU’s first nine games at free safety, but suffered a season-ending broken fibula against Idaho State (11/2/13). McDonald had a season-high nine tackles versus the Bengals before he was injured. He finished the year with 43 tackles, an interception and two passes broken up. His interception was against Southern Utah (10/19/13). Prior to the season, he earned preseason All-Big Sky accolades from Phil Steele (first team) and College Sports Madness (third team). Ranked seventh on the preseason FCS safety rankings as selected by Josh Buchanan at philsteele.com. In the two spring scrimmages he played in for the Eagles, he had nine tackles with a pass broken up and a fumble recovery. UCLA: In 2012, he started all 13 games he played in and ranked third on the team in tackles with 79. He paced the squad with a season-high 10 tackles against Utah, and also had nine tackles against Colorado and Oregon State, and eight at Washington State. He had six stops in the team’s opener at Rice, and six tackles with a fumble recovery in a win over Nebraska. McDonald had an interception return for 50 yards versus Houston. He had five tackles and two pass breakups against USC, and had five tackles in the Pac-12 Conference Championship Game at Stanford. He sat out the team’s Holiday Bowl appearance after violating team policies. McDonald appeared in 14 games in 2011, and started the last 11 games of the season. He had 56 tackles and tied for ninth in the Pac-12 in passes defensed (0.86 per game, including interceptions and passes broken up). He earned Freshman All-America honors by Yahoo!Sports (first team), cbssports.com (first team) and collegefootballnews.com (second team). He tied the school record with three interceptions against Cal and had a career-high 11 tackles against Arizona State. McDonald finished with five tackles in his first start at Oregon State. He also had nine stops against Oregon, seven against Washington State and six versus Utah. He had five tackles against both Stanford and Arizona, and recorded four tackles (two for loss) and a pair of passes broken up against Illinois. McDonald redshirted in 2010 at UCLA.

HS: Graduated from Edison HS in Fresno, Calif., in 2010. He played three seasons for his father, Tim McDonald. As a senior, he was rated the No. 17 safety by ESPN.com. He was also the No. 247 national prospect and No. 20 cornerback nationally according to scout.com, and the No. 47 player in the California/Nevada/Hawaii region by SuperPrep. In addition, he was rated the No. 72 cornerback by rivals.com and was Scout.com’s No. 33 player in California. McDonald earned four stars from scout.com and three stars from rivals.com, and was a Prep-Star All-Region selection. He was the No. 60 player in the West by scout.com and was a member of the Tacoma News-Tribune Western 100. He earned third team All-State honors from GoldenStatePreps.com and was a second team all-purpose back on the All-SoCal squad. As a senior, he had 68 tackles, three sacks and seven interceptions. On offense he had 36 receptions for 524 yards and seven touchdowns.

Personal: Race and culture studies major. Born July 17, 1992. His full name is Tevin William McDonald. His parents are Tim and Alycia McDonald. He has one brother, Tim, Jr., (goes by T.J.) who was a senior All-America safety at USC in 2012 and was drafted in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft by St. Louis. Tevin also has one sister, Taryn. His father played football for USC (two-time All-American, 1985-86) and was a second-round selection of the Cardinals in the 1987 NFL draft. Tim played 13 years in the NFL, including 1993-99 for the San Francisco 49ers, which won Super Bowl XXIX. Tim played in the NFL for the Cardinals (1987-92) and 49’ers (1993-99). Prior to joining the New York Jets coaching staff, Tim spent one season on the coaching staff at Fresno State, and before that was head coach at his alma mater, Edison High School in Fresno. Tevin and T.J. both played for their father at Edison, which won the California Interscholastic Federation Central Section championship in 2009. Tevin lists NFL standouts Ed Reed and Sean Taylor as his favorite NFL athletes.
