Did NCAA mess with SRS?

Post by 89Hen »

Not to go a Spandos, but last week's SRS...

7 Villanova wins and drops to 34
8 Northern Iowa wins and drops to 31
15 Missouri St idle and drops to 62
21 Southern Illinois wins and drops to 32

Now, I realize that their opponent's record has a lot to do with it, but UD was 7-4. How can that win drop villanova 27 spots? No f'n way.

Even if the system wasn't messed with, do you really want a system that can have such wild swings in a week in which your team wins? No thanks. :dunce:

I think the SRS system the NCAA uses is different than the SRS system we had been previously using.

This is the current SRS after 13 weeks according to http://www.footballperspective.com/non- ... -13-weeks/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
1 North Dakota St
2 Eastern Illinois
3 SE Louisiana St
4 Eastern Washington
5 Towson
6 Villanova
7 Northern Iowa
8 South Dakota St
9 Montana
10 McNeese St

Obviously this differs greatly from the NCAA SRS. I took a glance at this website's "methodology."
http://www.footballperspective.com/five ... s-ratings/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They take into the Margin of Victory, as well as strength of schedule.
The NCAA SRS does not consider margin of victory, and that's where the difference is. They consider win-loss differential instead.

According to the NCAA:
The NCAA Simple Rating System (NCAA SRS) is a ranking system used to gauge team quality. Within the NCAA SRS, the rating of a team will be calculated largely by two components: a strength-of-schedule measure (SOS) and a win-loss differential (WL).

Believe me, I was on here complaining about more than the SRS. That reminds me, I think I should start a thread on the CAA refs. There were some games this year that were so called with so much home team bias I cringed watching the games. And just so you know this isn't another Nova biased complaint, one of the worst was the Maine Nova 4th qtr. They almost handed us the game on the last drive. If Robertson hadn't thrown an interception we would have won.

Well we had every reason to believe that was the real "NCAA SRS", since whoever runs that website calls it... "NCAA SRS". lol :ohno:

My understanding is that margin of victory is a factor in the SRS we had been looking at but is not a factor in the official NCAA SRS.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?
