Cue the NAU collapse
I am calling it. This team is way overrated. We will lose to UND at the skydome, then beat UNC and finish off the season with a blowout loss to SUU. Souers will be up to his old tricks again. Any NAU bandwagoners here who think we are going deep in the playoffs?

Well, if they collapse THIS year, then won't see the top 25 in my poll for the next 5 years. They've got by FAR the easiest schedule going in to get into the playoffs.

I hope not. We got two Monkey's off our back last year - FBS win, Win over Montana.
Last year NAU still finished 8-3, and should have been in the playoffs. Lost to a Playoff team (Poly) by 8, and SUU by 6. Not really a collapse.

Does being a fan since the mid 80s constitute "band wagon"?
Jacks offense has been lacking but shown improvement with Cartwright at the wheel. Defense has been darned good. Kicking has been abnormally atrocious. 6-2....Losses to a pac 12 UofA and a tough MSU squad with wins over Cal Poly and Montana...im generally pleased.
I'll be the contrarian, jacksdude, and say that i dont see the "collapse" with this team. The cal poly and sac state games are traditionally the kinds of games NAU always found a way to lose even when they played competitively. They didnt play great in either game but dug deep and found a way to win.
Do i see NAU going deep in the playoffs and competing for a national championship...no. do i see the Jacks winning 2 or 3 of their final games to earn a playoff bid.....yes. SUU is the wild card. UNC and N. Dakota are both hurting bad.
Win 2 of 3 and playoffs opening round on the road. Win 3 of 3 and, perhaps, a home game in the opening round?
I'm visiting relatives in Fargo this week. Fargo has a LOT of school spirit. Well played, Bison backers.

Having the chance to a make the playoffs and just needing to win one of two home games? I'd call that a collapsedbackjon wrote:I hope not. We got two Monkey's off our back last year - FBS win, Win over Montana.

Fair enough. Although how will we get in at 8-3 with such an easy schedule this year if we didn't last year. No way we win all three. Re: Cue the NAU collapse
In a normal year, NAU would've been in the playoffs at 8-3, but the field was unusually strong last year. An 8-win power conference team wasn't safe like they normally would be. Losing the final two (including one to SUU) killed the 'Jacks in any kind of tiebreaker, if it indeed came to that.dbackjon wrote:I hope not. Re: Cue the NAU collapse
Even a collapsing team wouldn't lose to NoDak at home. UND matches up terribly to NAU: NAU has a secondary that can slow down their receivers, and NoDak's run D isn't good so Bauman should get free often.jacksdude0109 wrote:I am calling it. Blowout loss to SUU? No-one loses in a blowout to SUU. They only beat ISU by 10 and only beat NoCo by 6. NAU might lose to Suutah, but it definitely won't be a blowout.

Re: Cue the NAU collapse
Really...did you watch the end of the game? 25 point lead with about 4-5 minutes left. 16 points scored by ISU in the final few minutes on NAU's defensive backups and an ISU recovered onside kick. I will give ISU's offense credit for improving over the previous season and the Big Human has ISU playing hard but this wasnt a "close" game.jacksdude0109 wrote:We beat isu at homecoming by only 9

I love NAU fans. Completely satisfied with mediocrity for years. Well get em next year guys. Prepare for dissapointment at the end of the season, as usual
Re: Cue the NAU collapse
I'm trying not to be a smart ass here but do you expect blowout victories every game? The Jacks are 6-2. Ranked. Third place out of 13 teams. Great opportunistic defense and rare for NAU talent @running back. Jacks have found ways to win games they would have lost in the past. I've sat through enough 5-7 or 6-6 seasons that i wont take success by my alma mater for granted. Instead of focusing on the potential collapse, im going to enjoy the moment.jacksdude0109 wrote:Did you see the score at half time? And I absolutely hate souers , he should have been gone years ago.
Re: Cue the NAU collapse
Ive never said i was happy with mediocrity nor have i ever professed to be a disciple of Souers. He has had some success and a lot of frustration but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt for the time being based on 8-3 last season and 6-2 so far this season. Just think youre sounding a bit like a few internet Griz fans who are never...ever...happy. Just like last season...i will agree to disagree with you on our overall outlooks.jacksdude0109 wrote:I love NAU fans. Completely satisfied with mediocrity for years. Well get em next year guys.
