2009 SEASON PREDICTIONS

Post by SUUTbird »

I dont know if this is early or not but i figure that posting what we think will happen for our teams this season will at least stave off boredom of the offseason for a few more weeks (god the offseason sucks!). This is what i see from my 2009 Thunderbirds.

Game #1: vs Dixie State- W (A subpar D2 opponent for the Thunderbirds to beat up on in the opener)

Game #2: @ San Diego State: L (At least the Thunderbirds will enjoy their first trip to San Diego, nothing besides that)

Game #3: @ NAU: W (After a tough last second loss to the Lumberjacks last year i see SUU wining this one in another hard fought game, possibly the beginnings of a rivalry game.)

Game #4: @ Utah State: L (It will be a close game but Utah State will eventually pull away from the Thunderbirds, look for the Thunderbird WR's to shred the Aggies secondary.)

Game #5: vs Texas State (Homecoming): W (After a pretty dominate performance against the Bobcats in their house last year i see the Thunderbirds winning in a much tighter game this year.)

Game #6: @ Cal Poly: L (Even with some key personel losses the Mustangs will still be to much to stop. I see SUU losing in another shootout.)

Game #7: vs North Dakota: W (After coming from behind in 08 to beat the Sioux i see SUU winning in much more dominate fashion at home.)

Game #8: vs UC-Davis: W ( After a tough first half several turnovers turned the game in the Aggies favor. I see the Thunderbirds winning in a very tight hard fought game.)

Game #9: @ South Dakota: W (After being on the road for most of the year and how Shepard and co. ran over the Thunderbirds last year, i see SUU getting revenge on the road.)

Game #10: vs Eastern Washington: W (This game could go either way mainly based on how EWU feels at this point in the season what with there being no playoffs, but the Eagle secondary looks like it is going to be as bad as it was last year so im going to have to give the nod to my Thunderbirds with their pass heavy offense attack.)

Game #11: @ San Diego: W (The second trip to San Diego will be much sweeter as SUU will beat the Toreros and hopefully try to convince them that moving to the Great West would be a way better fit for them.)

Overall Record: 8-3
GWC Record: 3-1

A great record for 2009 but probably wont make it to the playoffs since i doubt they would put 2 teams from the Great West Confrence in. But definetly a huge step as they will get their first winning season in years and with wins over NAU and EWU hopefully making a strong case for them to move into the Big Sky possibly.

This is what I see for Weber State this next season.

Game 1: @ Wyoming- W (UW defensive secondary is weak, and that will be exploited by Weber's strong passing game).

Game 2: @ Colorado State- L ( As winable as this game is, CSU if far better than Wyoming )

Game 3: Idaho State- W ( Idaho State will still be the cellar dwellars )

Game 4: @ Portland State- W ( Portland State supposedly had a good recruiting class, they need to shape up that pass defense )

Game 5: Montana State- W ( I'll give the win to Weber because they are at home. )

Game 6: @ Eastern Washington W ( EWU will have a good offense, and Higgins will need to be better than what he was last year.)

Game 7: Sacramento State W ( Hornets played decent defense vs the Cats last year, but they still will be no match for the Wildcats).

Game 8: @ Northern Colorado W ( Despite 4 turnovers, Weber's offense amassed 600 yards on the Bears defense, It will most likely happen again).

Game 9: @ Montana L ( The biggest reason Weber would lose this game, is because its in Missoula, but we can hope can we not?)

Game 10: Northern Arizona W ( Weber made a mockery of NAU's defense, at NAU last year. NAU will be better this year, but not good enough).

Game 11: Cal Poly W ( Weber embarassed Cal Poly's pass defense last year, and now that CP has lost their coach, thier QB, and thier WR, what will Cal Poly be like this season).

9-2 overall, 7-1 in BSC

If their season goes as you have it, they will get serious consideration for the playoffs with their only losses against Cal Poly and a couple FBS teams... Of course Texas State, Northern Arizona and Eastern Washington will have to put up decent seasons to help out and if the entire Great West Conf can post winning records along with strong seasons from the other teams I mentioned, they could be a near lock for a spot.

Charity is cool and all, but it looks as if he is a homosexual man in fingerpaints. I dont mean to disrespect you or your culture. in 2005 we "snatched" that walter payton award from your Qb, Sanchez, but other than that i dont mean to "hurt" you.Now those uniforms with that silver & blue is a bad color combo BUT other than that were cool! :)

I like your style. This is exactly what I was going to go with. Add to the WIU scores that they are losing their only source of production on offense.....should be a great time.
