Great article on the big Chuck South win last night

BOONE, N.C. — Charleston Southern traveled to Kidd Brewer Stadium on Saturday afternoon as somewhat of an unknown.

First-year coach Jamey Chadwell’s Buccaneers had grinded their way to a 4-0 start behind an opportunistic defense and an offense that made just enough plays to win. Few believed CSU could put together the type of complete effort needed to beat tradition-rich Appalachian State. Chadwell and his team insisted they could, and they delivered.

In arguably the biggest win in the program’s 23-year history, Charleston Southern defeated Appalachian State, 27-24, stunning a crowd of 29,145 at The Rock.

“Everybody in the country knows who App State is,” said Chadwell after completing an unpredictable unblemished first month as CSU coach. “For us and our program and where we’ve been and probably the perception of it, to beat a team of their level and magnitude will raise the focus on what we’re doing and what we’re trying to become. It’s a special win just because of who they are and what they’ve done. It will pay dividends because it continues to validate what we have in that locker room.”

The victory was no fluke. CSU moved the ball at will against an Appalachian State team primed to move up to the FBS ranks and the Sun Belt Conference in 2014. Behind a career-high 167 yards rushing from Christian Reyes, the Bucs totaled 428 yards of offense and held possession of the football for an astounding 42:04.........

Did he ever!!!! Bishop England HS grad. First season seeing playing time, as he redshirted last year I think.

But talk about PRESSURE!!!! Starter goes down with injury. Down 24-20 with 5:00 to play, 3rd and goal from the 15, at App State in front of 30,000 people, with the chance to land probably the biggest win in school history on the line (only the 05 win over Coastal can even come close to this one)????

And the kid rolls right, throws back across the field into tight coverage to score the TD and shock the SoCon/Big South world????

Amazing clutch play. With this kid, I think the future is just fine once Dixon graduates.

Speaking of Dixon, bucsdad have you heard the extent of injury?

That was an absolutely unbelievable play. Armanti-esque, I dare say.

Kudos to the Bucs. Y'all's team dominated us in the trenches. And, that Reyes kid was a BEAST. :notworthy:

Thanks man. And just let me add, everyone associated with the CSU program has so much respect and admiration for a program of App's stature. Getting a win over you guys is by far one of the 2-3 biggest moments in our program's history. I know you guys will be back to championship level play in the near future, but Im just glad we can mark down a W over one of 1-AA's all time programs.

Beautiful stadium, GREAT crowd, very friendly, awesome tailgating, gorgeous scenery, wonderful experience in Boone.

And yes, that play was iced blood stone cold clutch. A backup freshman, unexpectedly coming in for the senior starter, with one of the programs all time greatest wins on the line, 3rd and goal, down 4, less than 5 mins to play, and he scrambles, across the body, TD to win it. The stars were simply aligned for us Saturday. No other way to explain it.

If anyone here was around for the 2005 win over Coastal that won CSU's lone conference championship ring, you know that SOME DAYS, the stars and heavens and God himself are simply on CSU's side.
