Big Sky Predictions 8-31

Post by JALMOND »

Time for some football. With some of the Big Sky schools playing on Thursday I thought I'd get this out earlier. As in other years, the Big Sky school will be shown as the scoreboard abbreviation while the non-Big Sky school will be spelled out. For example if North Dakota played Notre Dame, North Dakota would be abbreviated as UND while Notre Dame would be spelled out. An exception is Sacramento State which will be abbreviated as Sac State. Hopefully this year will be better than last year. Here are my predictions for this weekend and of course all are my opinion only.

San Diego at CP---The post-Broadous era begins for the Mustangs at home against the non-scholly San Diego squad. The Pioneer conference gets an AQ this year into the playoffs, not that it makes much difference here...CP 31, San Diego 24.

EWU at Oregon State---The Eagles are not scared of the big boys, and probably should have went 2-0 last year against the FBS. Still, Oregon State will be ranked in the FBS and should not have any problems putting them away...Oregon State 31, EWU 16.

Appalachian State at UM---The start of the season could not come soon enough for the Grizzlies to put last year behind them. They start with the return game with Appalachian State after just losing last year. Probably the best game the first weekend in the conference...Appalachian State 28, UM 25.

Monmouth at MSU---McGhee's swan song with the Bobcats begin at home against the former Northeast member, Monmouth. The Bobcats have been hit with the injury bug and hopefully can get through this game healthy...MSU 48, Monmouth 14.

Valparaiso at UND---The former Sioux open up the season at home against the Pioneer Conference foe, Valparaiso, who has had trouble with the FCS in recent seasons. Should be an easy game, look for Hardin to run wild the first game...UND 52, Valparaiso 14.

NAU at Arizona---The Lumberjacks held their own last season against in-state Pac-12 squad, Arizona State. This season, they open against the other in-state Pac-12 team, Arizona. Once again, close but not quite...Arizona 32, NAU 20.

Langston at UNC---The Bears hope to build on their great showing at the end of last season and not fall to another lower division team like they did a couple years ago. Are they in or are they out? I'd say they are in...UNC 35, Langston 7.

Eastern Oregon at PSU---This is the third straight year the Vikings open against the NAIA, opening against Carroll College last season and Southern Oregon the year before that. Same level of play, same outcome...PSU 38, Eastern Oregon 13.

Sac State at San Jose State---The Hornets are eager to get the season started and, while San Jose State is not the Pac-12, the Hornets like their chances. The problem is that San Jose State is not the Pac-12...San Jose State 28, Sac State 22.

SUU at South Alabama---The Thunderbirds start their season without their star quarterback from the last three seasons and have to go on the road to play FBS transition team, South Alabama. If they have found a replacement right away, this could be interesting...South Alabama 35, SUU 19.

UCD at South Dakota---If the Appalachian State/Montana game is one of the best this weekend, this could be one of the worst. The Aggies are rebuilding and finished near the bottom. South Dakota is rebuilding and finished near the bottom in the Missouri Valley. Who wants it more (or less)...UCD 22, South Dakota 19.

Stephen F Austin at WSU---Hard to imagine that the Wildcats went deep in to October before getting their first win last season. Can't see them waiting that long as they could start the season with a win. Or not...Stephen F Austin 24, WSU 21.

Probably?

PROBABLY?

If you're giving 3 points, I'll take that shit all day long. We damned near beat them IN their house, with a RS FR QB, on the road, in his first collegiate start and have 18 starters back. At home.

I'll take those odds all day long.

What's with all the Thursday games...what is this the MAC??? Honestly tho I don't see any upsets. And well ASU vs UM could go either way but I guess I better pick the griz and be homer..that way I can atleast fit in.

San Diego at CP: CP overcomes some early struggles and wins it behind a strong defensive performance.

EWU at Oregon State: EWU hangs for a quarter but can't duplicate what the Hornets did 2 years ago.

Appalachian State at UM: Coin flip. Not sold on JJ until he proves it. This is a perfect opportunity to do so.

Monmouth at MSU: MSU in a blowout.

Valparaiso at UND: UND in a blowout.

NAU at Arizona: NAU keeps it close for a half but eventually falls.

Langston at UNC: UNC in a blowout.

Eastern Oregon at PSU: PSU in a blowout.

Sac State at San Jose State: Hornets hang for a half, then fall to the more talented team. SDH gets incoherently drunk on the bus ride home, gets kicked off the bus and has to hitch hike the rest of the way home.

SUU at South Alabama: Life post Sorensen doesn't get off to a good start for SUU.

UCD at South Dakota: Coin flip, gave it to the home team in a close low scoring affair.

Stephen F Austin at WSU: SFA routes a rebuilding WSU program.

Why do you even have a home stadium? Here is what you should do, since your AD is only concerned about money.

Sell the stadium for scrap, sell the land for apartments, play a full away schedule with 3 or 4 FBS games. PURE PROFIT, amirite?

From what I see, 7-5 to start which is pretty lame. Bright spot is the conference went 9-3 as a whole. It's going to be pretty wild in the Big Sky this year.

We should know more about Weber in the next two weeks as they have their bigger brethren (Utah, Utah St) on tap.

Weber was outgained and turnovers were even, but they did a better job capitalizing: Weebs had a pick-six and a kick return touchdown.

Very disappointing loss for SFA.
