Visited a few spots on the way home yesterday...

Post by ASUG8 »

We spent the weekend in Raleigh, decided we really weren't in that big a hurry, and chose to stop at a few places we hadn't seen despite having lived in NC for most of our lives.

First stop: Duke University.

I hate Duke and make no apologies for it. :tothehand: That being said, it's probably the most beautiful campus I've set foot on so far. Loads of land, old buildings, classic architecture. Too bad it's known locally as the University of New Jersey at Durham. :ohno:

Next: Elon

I have no love for Elon either - in spite of living in Greensboro for 15 yrs before heading to SC, I had never visited their campus even though it was only 25 minutes away. Very nice campus, and clearly the private school monies are being used to finance a ton of new buildings. We happened upon an open practice at Rhodes stadium and I was really impressed with it. It's pretty small, but very nice overall.

Last: UNCC

There was no practice at UNCC Sunday, because according to the folks on AGS the 49ers have already won the Super Bowl this season. Say what you want, but this place was really impressive with the planning - the concourses were probably 35-40 yards wide. The stadium looks a little odd at this point, but you can see that they clearly aren't planning for it to remain this size for long. Everything was top notch, and ready to add a second level when the time comes. I hadn't been on campus at UNCC for a long time, and they have added a ton of new buildings near the highway 49 entrance that really frame the stadium. This would be a great venue to check out a game.

All in all, a pretty impressive drive down I-85 yesterday.
