Re: CAA Media Day: Preseason Poll & All CAA released
3 omissions I noticed:
Andrew Pierce, RB, UD: 1st team All CAA & 3rd team TSN AA as an Fr in 10'. 2nd team All CAA team 11'. 3rd team All CAA last yr (was injured part of year). TSN has him as a pre season 3rd team All American. I would have put him ahead of the VU guy, who granted was a 1st teamer last season as a rFr coming out of nowhere.
Dan Shirey, OC, VU: Started as a true Fr on their 09' NC team. Was 3rd team? All CAA in 10', 1st team in 11' and was pre season All CAA and All American last season before missing the whole season due to a Spring 12' injury. TSN has him as a 3rd team pre season All American.
Michael Cole, DE, Maine: Led the CAA in sacks last season with 7..in ONLY 5 games. I saw him get 5 sacks against UD in their 5th game before he went down for the season in the 2nd half. TSN has him as a 3rd team All American.ndrew Pierce, delaware

Re: CAA Media Day: Preseason Poll & All CAA released
Not worth starting another thread to quelsh a BS rumor, but there was a rumor going around that JMU's starting QB was going to be out for a month as of this past Tues. Not true. Only 10-14 days, which means Birdsong should be practicing full go around 8/16-8/20, in time to be ready for the 8/31 opener against CCSU. Heck, Big Ben was playing 9 days after he had an appendectomy.
"JMU says quarterback Birdsong will be out two weeks
James Madison football coach Mickey Matthews said Friday that he expects quarterback Michael Birdsong to be out 10-14 days barring any problems.
Birdsong underwent an appendectomy on Tuesday. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound sophomore from Matoaca High, who was on hand at Friday’s media day, said doctors “got it before it ruptured” and called it “pretty minor surgery.
JMU opens its season Aug. 31 at home against Central Connecticut State.
“I’m excited and champing at the bit,” Birdsong said. “I’m ready to go out there. I want to go, and I want to play football. I want to lead these guys down the field and get some wins. It’s just a little delay. I’ve got to hold back for the time being. Once they turn me loose, this thing’s going to be rocking and rolling.”
Birdsong watched practice on Friday and attended meetings on Thursday.
The Dukes have rebuilt their offense around Birdsong’s passing ability. He played in eight games as a true freshman and was 41 for 77 for 478 yards and four touchdowns.
Redshirt sophomore Lafonte Thourogood, who played in one game last year, is the backup."

Delaware QB Trent Hurley could have a breakout year and snag that top spot with ease
