Sounds driven by anti-athletic faculty

The University of Central Arkansas is thinking of dropping down from Division I to Division II athletics to save money.

"We're already receiving our NCAA revenue enhancements. We're getting more community support than ever before in division II." said UCA Athletic Director Dr. Brad Teague.

Faculty Senate President Dr. Kevin Browne said a subcommittee will decide whether it is feasible for UCA to return to Division II. UCA moved up to Division I, across platforms in 2010.

"I'd frankly like to see an investment made in faculty." said Faculty Senate President Dr. Kevin Browne.

Dr. Browne said some faculty members are concerned about privately funded bonuses that some athletic employees received. He said faculty members have only received one pay raise in the past five years.

I love how that retard thinks that by dropping sports or going to DII, that money that went to athletics is going to magically appear in his pocket.

Exactly what I was thinking. Sounds like some union asshole who can't stand to see someone make more money than he does.

I *suspect* this is one those "academic purity" people who believe athletics is contrary to the purpose of a university. EWU had a group of these idiots that were very vocal in the past but have generally been treated like the losers they are since the national championship.

Hang in there Central Arkansas! You deserve to be a D-I institution !

Not you for saying it, but that people like that exist. Such people were out to get the UOP football team for ten years before the unfortunate demise, which was HORRIBLY mishandled by the administration. I suspect that similar folk have tried to do the same at Sac in the past. They're probably too smart to broach that during an era when the football team beats PAC-12 schools, though. It's hard to make much headway when the team is experiencing any sort of success. That said, I hope that UCA's string of success is recognized, and these idiots sileneced. Besides, if there is any truth to the report that these bonuses are privately funded, these "purity" folk have no leg to stand on here, IMO.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

It's been going on for years at Montana, particularly as the female faculty has grown in proportion. When they find an ally in a local newspaper, they can put a lot of pressure on a University president. It's one of the reasons why more and more football-generated revenue finds its way out of the AD into many other landing areas around the University. Redistribution of wealth....

It's been going on for years at Montana, particularly as the female faculty has grown in proportion. When they find an ally in a local newspaper and the state BOR, they can put a lot of pressure on a University president. It's even possible for them to attack the program's success. It's one of the reasons why more and more football-generated revenue finds its way out of the AD into many other landing areas around the University. Pelosi, Reid and Obama were not the first to espouse redistribution of wealth....
