Very disgusted with my Black Knights right now, makes me kind of embarrassed to be in the Army...very tired of being slapped in face and disappointed with their poor play, mistakes which we can never seem to stop doing. Congrats to the Seawolves.

Re: Congrats to Stony Brook
Unless you are a West Point graduate, I don't know why you would refer to the Black Knights as your team. I was an army officer for seven years and can tell you that most West Point graduates see two armies. They see the U.S. Army and the West Point army. Unless you have a ring to knock, you ain't one of them.SUUTbird wrote:Very disgusted with my Black Knights right now, makes me kind of embarrassed to be in the Army...very tired of being slapped in face and disappointed with their poor play, mistakes which we can never seem to stop doing. Watched the game. Wasn't much of one. Stony Brook has quite the unit and the score could have been worse. It will go down as another FCS win over the FBS, but clearly start to finish the best team won this game.

Sorry, I AM part of the Army even if I am not a West Point grad. The Army football team is not just for West Point graduates or officers, it is for everyday enlisted men like me as well. Thank you for serving but dont say I cant call the Black Knights my team because I didnt go to West Point.CitadelGrad wrote:Unless you are a West Point graduate, I don't know why you would refer to the Black Knights as your team. Don't be disgusted. Some of those guys may be in Afghanistan next year. It's just a game, these guys will be serving their country soon, just like you did. I would never be disgusted with them because they lost a football game.SUUTbird wrote:Very disgusted with my Black Knights right now, makes me kind of embarrassed to be in the Army...very tired of being slapped in face and disappointed with their poor play, mistakes which we can never seem to stop doing. What CitGrad says is true to some degree, even in the Navy, but I gotta say that I'm with Tbird on THIS one. (And THAT's a first....) I'm former enlisted Navy, and Annapolis is just about the only FBS team I care for anymore. I never understood that Academy vs. ROTC/OCS bias.
Sure, I live to see West Point lose to Annapolis, but I'll take Tbird's POV here 'till the cows come home....

They have a very high recruiting standard. They aren't going to get anyone who plans on playing in the NFL. They aren't going to get anyone with a blemish on their record.CatBlitz22 wrote:Army is hardly FBS football...
Congrats on the win!
You have to be a quality student to get into any of the academies.
I have nothing but respect for them, even if they can't compete at the highest level of NCAA football.

That isn't necessarily true, 86, or at least not for ALL of the service academies. There is a rich history of people getting their degree at a service academy, fulfilling their commitment (yes, McCallum got a special deal), and moving on to the NFL. I don't know how many of them went to West Point, but for the service academies in general, that's true. From Staubach to McCallum, and even (switching sports) Robinson, people have done well in the service and then moved on to do great things in the sports world. And the great thing about getting one of those guys is that you know you're going to get a dedicated, honorable, reliable person who will be there for you, making few if any mistakes, and certainly not sitting out because of a screw-up that led to a suspension.

I understand who they are and I respect them because they will potentially be my commander in the future, not disgusted with them as individuals more being a fan and frustrated with their lackluster performance that they had today, and I am still in the military not out of it yet still have a few years left.BlueHen86 wrote:Don't be disgusted. Spent the whole day at West Point. Watched the parade which is always impressive . Talked to a few Cadets and of course the game itself. We finally got a win against an FBS team . True it wasnt Alabama but it is our first and in a historic stadium . Anyway on to Big South play next weekend at home against CSU.

I think he is saying that the West Pointers don't consider you to be a part if their special club. I reminded this kid in Iraq back 2004 that we beat Army in our last two meetings with them, and he immediately got a case of the a$$ over it and started telling me that his education was somehow superior because he didn't have to pay for it.SUUTbird wrote:Sorry, I AM part of the Army even if I am not a West Point grad. West Point is a college, and they don't think much if you if you didn't go there.

Re: Congrats to Stony Brook
It is true. The guys that went on the NFL, or NBA in David Robinson's case, weren't planning on going pro when they accepted their appointment to their respective academy.SuperHornet wrote:That isn't necessarily true, 86, or at least not for ALL of the service academies. Most kids who plan on going pro don't plan on spending 4 years in college, and they certainly don't plan on spending 5 years in the service.

Re: Congrats to Stony Brook
If that is how officers want to treat their soldiers then they have no right to being in charge in the first place. Run into a few higher ups like that before and believe me, my fellow enlisted buddies and NCO's had no respect for them. Know its not all the grads from West Point but if that is the type of guy he is then good riddance.CID1990 wrote:I think he is saying that the West Pointers don't consider you to be a part if their special club. I have a 20+ year career working with the various Services. The reason non-Academy officers (in all the Services) resent the Academy grads is competition for positions as their careers progress. Many resent a perception that Academy grads get favoritism on promotion and with command and other assignments. Enlisted personnel don't experience this dynamic. No sergeant or petty officer is ever in such a position to compete with the academy grads.
