App. State @ East Carolina
Thought this was a pretty interesting matchup. Any of you App. folks know how good (if at all) ECU is?

Re: App. State @ East Carolina
I'm not all that familiar with them-- I think I watched them play 1 game last year.
But, looking at the statistics-- they had a pretty poor defense last year (gave up 32 points per game and 376 yards of offense, had no rushing game whatsoever (105 yards per game, last in the conference). They were able to throw the ball around (286 yards per game, 2nd in the conference behind only Houston). They still haven't settled in on a quarterback (at least as last week), but the receivers they have back are studs. We have to slow down their passing game to stay in the game.
The key to this game will be 1) how well our offense... especially the young guys... pick up the changes Satterfield brought in and 2) how well our secondary defends their receivers. The secondary is one of the strengths of our defense, but this will be a big test.
On paper, I really like the matchup and feel like if we want to win the SoCon and be in the race for a national title... we should be able to win this game. If we lose a close game, I won't be too discouraged... if we get run off the field... I think this will be a long season.

How are you going to feel about your SoCon chances when you start out the season 0-2?Skjellyfetti wrote:I'm not all that familiar with them-- I think I watched them play 1 game last year.

If we start the season off 0-2, I obviously wouldn't feel very well about our SoCon chances.AZGrizFan wrote: How are you going to feel about your SoCon chances when you start out the season 0-2?![]()
2-0 is more likely, imo. ECU losing 3 starting wide receivers from their 3 deep will help that out quite a bit.

I feel like we're too young to win this game. This is a team that could be National Championship good in late October/November but I think it's a work in progress. Logic would dictate that this is a game that we'd pack it in if it goes bad early, but considering how App just had the most up-tempo fall camp of all time and ECU gassed out in 2009, we could win this game if we keep it close in the late 3rd quarter, but a lot of things have to go right.

Last time we went 0-2 was '09 with losses to ECU and McNeese. We won the Socon and finished 11-3 losing to Montana in the semis. I'd feel ok with 0-2 - not great, but OK. Not too worried about starting out that way this year.AZGrizFan wrote:How are you going to feel about your SoCon chances when you start out the season 0-2?Skjellyfetti wrote:I'm not all that familiar with them-- I think I watched them play 1 game last year.
