Re: FCS Recruiting Classes
Here is YSU fans Paladin's MVFC Outlook... Just to put things into context: Until last year, he never had YSU as the top class in the MVFC. He used to throw us in the bottom third due to Heacock's lack of recruiting abilities. In year 1 of Wolford he had them in the top 3, but the past two years of Wolford, he has had YSU at #1 in the class. So yes, it may come across as biased, but as much as Paladin get's on my nerves, he is usually pretty accurate when it comes to judging football talent.

1. Youngstown State: For the second straight year I'm calling YSU with the best recruiting class in the MVFC (last year was the first time ever for the program), and I might add it wasn't close. Total domination. However, lots of similar happenings -- most teams went heavy for OL and also DL. Florida and California were favorite spots. The most shocking was the dropoff in transfers and Jucos.
Tie 2. Southern Illinois: SIU had a nice class of 26 ( 20 Frosh, 3 transfers, 3 Jucos) in cluding 2 Big 10 RB transfers and a LB transfer from Washington. The Indiana transfer is from Middletown, Oh. and the Iowa transfer looks good too. Some size and some good H.S. programs.
Tie 2. Northern Iowa: UNI came in with 22 ( 20 Frosh , 2 Jucos) The Juco RB looks good and they picked up a QB from Florida who looks good. They also added a 4.4/40 WR who set pass records. Good H.S. programs. To digress, the laugh this year is that UNI and NDSU appear to fighting each other for recruits as each lost out to the other for recruits. They are complaining loudly about this. This may play well to our advantage.
4. Western Illinois: They added 21 which included a transfer from E. Mich ( 6'3, 230, LB) and four solid players from Flodida, including the MVP from the two time state champ team ( Glades Day).
5. North Dakota State: They had 17 Frosh, no Jucos. Went for 4 OL and had solid Frosh at a LB ( 6'2, 230) and a nice looking DL. Good programs but thought they slipped.
6. South Dakota State: Disappointing at 6th , but they added 21 ( 18 Frosh & 3 Jucos). Several of the players were from California, including a big, record setting WR. Overall, unimpressive .
Rest of League: The rest of the league sucked. YSU wins by virtue of the quality ,numbers, the number of outstanding Florida players, the biggest OLs recruited in the MVFC,the best Jucos and players with All state honors from solid football states. Also videos were available to preview at most ahtletic depts.. It wasn't close.

Calm down man, you can't expect last year's class to make us a playoff contender in their FRESHMEN year.. Now after 3 solid recruiting classes, you would think we will compete for a league and national title this year... I would love to see a site (ESPN or Yahoo) that ranks all the FCS teams like they do the FBS teams. But that will never happen.sioux24/7 wrote:Is there a website or a ranking for the top FCS classes?

Re: FCS Recruiting Classes
South Dakota St I liked the players from the OL they picked up Shoff(6-6 290) ,Carr(6-8 285),Landsman(6-7 260) and the wr they picked Landberg definitely has big play ability has stats from the prep ranks he was averaging well over 20 ypc.Brown the db they took has a track background he'll need to stay with Landberg in practice.guinzone wrote:Here is YSU fans Paladin's MVFC Outlook... Re: FCS Recruiting Classes
Interesting note; one of EWU's prized recruits, 3-star WR/CB Dalis Bruce, had offers from
Oregon State, Utah State, Hawaii, San Diego, Montana State, Sac State, UCLA (pref. Walk on), Fresno State, Cal (Grey Shirt) Villanova, NAU, Towson U.
Odd that East Coast FCS schools were coming out to Cali to recruit this kid.

Looks like a great get and we would have been happy to get him but I don't see anywhere that we offered him. Maybe it was a late offer that nobody picked up on.

Often that stuff goes unreported on the recruiting sites... either just doesn't get updated or whatever. That list is straight from a poster who is either related to or a close friend to Bruce on the Eagle forum.Catattack wrote:Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:Interesting note; one of EWU's prized recruits, 3-star WR/CB Dalis Bruce, had offers from

Someone mentioned maybe he isn't an academic qualifier, but judging from everything I've been reading, I din't think this is the case. He could play next fall.

Me too. Rivals and ESPN 3 star, 76 grade from ESPN. Also an honor student at St. John Bosco in Cali. Seems like a great all-around student athlete. Not sure if he will play WR or DB.....decent speed at 4.5.dal4018 wrote:Would love to see his prep statsScreamin_Eagle174 wrote:Interesting note; one of EWU's prized recruits, 3-star WR/CB Dalis Bruce, had offers from

Re: FCS Recruiting Classes
Guinzone did not call YSU the best--these are Paladin's observations. If I recall correctly Guinzone ranked NDSU as number 1 in the MVFC all last season and had to take flak from UNI fans about it. For the record Paladin has rarely said anything positive about YSU's football program during the past decade, in fact he predicted that NDSU would massacre us the first time that they played us @home a few years back.I take his positive spin on our program as a sign that either hell is freezing over or that our future is looking far brighter.bison07 wrote:Im calm, our freshman and sophs made the playoffs last year, and yes you guys did beat us thats what makes the valley great lots of good teams and good FB to watchguinzone wrote: Calm down man, you can't expect last year's class to make us a playoff contender in their FRESHMEN year.. I don't know who had the over-all best recruiting class and that would be a huge task for someone to gather that info. However, I think UNC had the only 4 star recruit of any FCS school. Could be wrong.

FCS Recruiting Classes
EWU had two guys that were 3 stars on the various recruiting sites, and two guys that were 2 stars. Maybe a better class than even last year's. Really interesting that the majority of this year's class is from California. EWU traditionally has been very heavy on Washington kids, but in recent years has recruited quite a bit in the Bay area of California. This year, we got a lot of guys from SoCal, which is an interesting turn of events. I don't think EWU has ever had a recruiting class where they have signed more out of state recruits than in-state. It's also puzzling why they have to consistently go out of state to find Qb's that can be succesful in the spread. I don't really care where our Qb's come from, but strange that EWU has not had a starting Qb from a very under-valued HS football state (WA) in a very long time. We seem to have to go to Cali or Texas.

Low 4.5's are still pretty decent speed, but yeah, It'd be nice if e were running in the 4.4's.
