These schedules are a huge step up from a few years ago. Great for the NEC. Now if the power that be would remove the scholarship restriction we'd be going somewhere.

Yeah- it would seem to make more sense if you're going to 40 schollies you may as well go to 57 or or whatever it took to be a counter for the I-A. Then not only would the NEC be more competitive with the 63 schollie conferences but each team could play 1-2 money games at around 250k-500k a pop.

Agreed. The problem is there is a wide distinction between the "haves" and "have nots" in the NEC with the "have nots" being full NEC members.

I'm hopeful that Wagner playing an FBS team this year will see the light on this issue. They are considered by most to be a "have not" in the NEC that is holding up the scholarship issue along with St. Francis and Sacred Heart.

Speaking of St Francis, Loretto, PA is only 200 miles/3.5 hrs from JMU, but the 2 schools have never played. The JMU AD scheduled a 2 for 1 with them, and some of us were WTF? on our board. The response I penned:

"JMU has a 25k capacity stadium that avg 25k attendance.
St Francis has a 3.5k stadium that avg 1410 attendance in 2011- dead last, 120 of 120 in I-AA.

Bridgeforth is about 7x as large as the St Francis stadium, with about 18x the avg attendance. JMU playing at St Francis would be the equivalent of one of your BCS with a 100-110k capacity stadium (Penn State, Mich, Ohio St, Tenn, Bama, TX) playing at a school with a 15k stadium that avg 6k attendance. Would be idiocy.

St Francis probably gets paid tickets that number in the hundreds each home game. If they don't lose $ on home games, they certainly make very little. They probably couldn't even cover JMU's bus fare, much less hotel, food, etc.

It doesn't matter if its in a yr that JMU played 12 games, and still had 6 games at home. Think of it as a financial pie. If in lieu of playing all 3 games at the 25k stadium, you play one at the 3.5k stadium, you are removing nearly 1/3 of the financial pie. Makes ZERO financial sense.

NDSU hosted St Francis last yr. I'll bet my mortgage that NDSU isn't going to play @ St Francis. No way ASU, Montana, UD, ODU would play @ a school with a 3.5k HS stadium.

Just look at their stadium footage. A turf field with a track & fence around it with some bleachers thrown up along some woods.

I'm embarrassed to be in the same conference as St Francis. I can't begin to imagine how it feels to voluntarily go to the Pine Bowl.

They'd jump at it, but sadly the financial arguments against JMU playing at an NEC team apply to every other team in the league, too. CCSU's new visitors' side brings their capacity to a league-high 7,000

Maybe JMU got St Francis to come to JMU for a smaller than usual payout for 2 games in order for a return game there that has a much larger 100k+ buyout? According to the Harrisonburg paper Wed: "The St. Francis contract is for three games, two to be played at Bridgeforth and one at St. Francis in Loretto, Pa. The dates have been set but were not available Tuesday."

Maybe the game @ St Francis isn't set till at least 2014 & there is an escape clause if JMU moves up and if JMU doesn't move up, will simply have to buy them out. Jeff Bourne, the JMU AD, did say this past season that a move up could happen in 18-24 months. I just can't imagine JMU playing there.

Anyway, I would love to hear details of the contract.

Agreed, but at least they'd have some shot at fans getting a seat. They'll have to provide lawn chairs for a game at the Pine Bowl.

I was a little suprised that CCSU signed up for a 2-game deal at JMU (2011, 2013) only because we usally do 1-year $$ games. I would never expect JMU to agree to a return game at CCSU, despite the fact we will have the biggest facility in the NEC.

Love to hear more details about this, when they become available. I have to assume JMU was very desperate to sign something to get the home game for 2012 and worried about the buyout later.

I think you'll have to wait until next season to find out. Current capacity is 3,500.

August 30 New Haven Register "$8 million renovation that will add seating for an additional 2,800 fans by 2012, bringing the capacity at Arute to about 6,300."

August 31 NHR"$3 million stadium renovation program that will add seating for an additional 2,400 fans by 2012, bringing the capacity at Arute to about 5,400."

A lot of sites online quote "$8 million Outdoor Athletic Facilities renovation project at CCSU. The expansion will add an estimated 4,000 seats to Arute Field."

Yeah, I'm not sure what the official number will be. The current stadium side seats only 3,200 however I don't think that includes any of the temporary belachers in both endzones. I think the new side will add about 2,500, bringing the unoffical seating total to about 6k or more.

The new seating will be ready for the 2012 home opener vs. Lehigh. It was finished for the final 2 games this year, but because it was still part of an active construction site (completing the restrooms and bleachers on the other side for soccer) we couldn't get a C.O. from the State.

While I'm not happy with the design or layout of our stadium (the existing portion), I think its fair to say right now it's the best facility in the NEC - which is a bad thing. Our new side looks great on TV and will enhance the entire experience for visitors. Hopefully Albany does it right (like Stony Brook), but our orginal design was fU$%ed up from the begining because it was done in-house.

Last week our AD said 7,000 and construction starting very soon. We'll see though.

UA's hangup was red tape at the state level...last week I was told the Governors office gave final approval...there is no more red tape. Now we sit back and see what they build but a brand new facility is coming.
