Featuring an early-season schedule with a familiar feel to it, the Eastern Washington University football team will open the 2012 season with three road games and a bye, as the schedule was released Wednesday (Jan. 18) by EWU.
The Eagles open the 2012 season at former Big Sky Conference rival Idaho, then return to the Palouse a week later to face Washington State and new head coach Mike Leach. After a bye in the schedule, Eastern opens Big Sky Conference play at Weber State against former Idaho head coach and WSU assistant John L. Smith.
Finally, on Sept. 29, the Eagles will play their home opener versus Montana at Roos Field in Cheney, Wash. Two years ago, in the debut of EWU’s red Sprinturf surface in the first game at the re-named field (it was formerly Woodward Field), the Eagles knocked off the Grizzlies 36-27...

EWU Announces 2012 Schedule
I like the fact 4 of the away games are within driving distance for me so there's a good chance I will see 8 or 9 games in person this year. But it ain't an easy schedule and for the second year in a row, no home games until the end of September. And no UNC or ISU.
Re: EWU Announces 2012 Schedule
I'll be there on Nov. 3rd for the Cal Poly game.

We will definitely have to tip a few.SloStang wrote:I'll be there on Nov. 3rd for the Cal Poly game.
Re: EWU Announces 2012 Schedule
Not a great schedule but not as bad as last years. Both FBS games are winnable and doing well should help their clout in the Spokane region which is sorely needed. The early bye should help after a tough early season schedule. Pretty light on the traveling too. The furthest away game is at SUU.

Re: EWU Announces 2012 Schedule
I have a few question mark games here as well. I HOPE I'm wrong about the Sac game (for our sakes), but it's probably correct as I put it (assuming, of course, that the Eags don't have last year's injury problems. I understand what SE said about the QB situation, but I think your coach will figure that one out fairly quickly.kalm wrote:I like the fact 4 of the away games are within driving distance for me so there's a good chance I will see 8 or 9 games in person this year. I like your optimism SH but I see 8-3 at best.SuperHornet wrote:I have a few question mark games here as well. Sept 28-30th seems like a great time to not be in Missoula.

I like the regional games.....don't like the prospects of opening up the season at 0-2.

Re: EWU Announces 2012 Schedule
I'm not so sure about assuming 0-2. If EWU can't beat Idaho, I'll eat my hat. They're an FCS in FBS clothing, and certainly not FBS. As far as I'm concerned, Idaho's barely on par with the MAC. And Wazzu? They're nowhere near the quality of Oregon State, which lost to Sac last year. While I won't say that beating Wazzu will be as easy as beating Idaho, I wouldn't put it past the Eags, either. While I expect the Eags to open 1-1, 2-0 wouldn't surprise me at all.
Now if the AD had scheduled U$C and Stanford, on the other hand....

On my schedule I have UC Davis at EWU on Nov. 10. Must be a mistake.
