As an indoor football venue, the Alerus Center cannot host games on real grass, but for $4 million, it can have something almost as good.
After 11 years of wear and tear, the Alerus Center’s management is replacing its playing surface with new turf, estimated to cost between $3.5 million to $4 million.
The new surface will be infill turf, a material that comes closer to replicating the feel of natural turf and is easier on the bodies of athletes playing an impact sport.
“That’s the new standard for football,” said Alerus Center Operations Manager Jeremy Linstad.
UND installed similar turf at Memorial Stadium, where the football team practices, and the Fargodome is replacing its turf, installed about as the Alerus Center’s, with the same system as the Grand Forks facility plans to install.
UND plays five or six regular season football games each season in the city-owned facility. Linstad estimated that with practices, high school games and other events, the surface is used between 25 and 30 times a year.
No word on what the endzones will look like except that it won't have the word Sioux on it.

Why is it costing that much? The primary driver of turf installation costs is typically subsurface work, and I can't imagine the Alerus Center would have to do much, if anything, since it's already indoors and essentially a replacement turf ...The Superdome in New Orleans replaces their turf every year at a cost of about 200K per year, give or take a few thousand ... I can't imagine any reason to spend 3.5 to 4 million unless it's guaranteed to maintain performance for the next 20 to 25 years ... for that, you could just replace it every year like the Superdome ... in fact, we're replacing ours this year with the Superdome turf that was used for the 2010 season ... it's in outstanding shape and extremely cost effective for us.
"With three days left until the first preseason Saints game, finishing touches were put on the field’s new turf on Tuesday.
According to Thornton, replacing the turf every year is easier and more cost-effective than trying to maintain it. A new field costs SMG around $200,000."

Oh my, confusing UND and NDSU's stadiums.......hell hath no fury as those two ninny pants fanbases when you confuse them with each other.
Please don't tell Obama what comes after a Trillion.
Looks good Willie but you may have to add the words Alerus Center towards the sidelines somewhere. They need their name on it...until their naming rights runs out in 2020.
This is the new NDSU BISON field to be installed this summer in the indsanely popular Fabulous Fargo Dome. One of the sponors is Gate City Savings, the Fargo Dome Authority is covering the rest of the cost from the maintanance/building fund. Total cost 3.5 million.
The UND turf is the same product that is being installed at the FFD. Estimated cost 4.5 million and the alerus center is asking UND for some cost sharing funds.
Couple Questions for all you UND fans out there:
1) Why do you think the Alerus is paying 1 million more than the Fabulous and insanely popular Fago Dome?
2) Do you think its appropriate that UND/North Dakota tax payers should be sharing in this cost?
Here is a video announcement of the Fargo Dome Turf Project. Its long but it explains the entire deal.
Dear Lord, We come before you and humbly ask you to grant our prayer for a veil of protection to be placed over Donald Trump. May your will be done. In Jesus name we pray. Amen

How about you start a new thread with your shit on it? This thread is about the Alerus Center, not the FD. Thanks

Im sorry about your reading comprehension skills, but I understand.
My comments addressed two questions about the Alerus turf:
1) Why does it cost an extra million for the turf at UND which is exactly the same turf being installed at NDSU?
2) Is it appropriate for taxpayers to be supporting the new turf at the Alerus center?
Also, why is the green on their turf so pale. Look at these beautiful colors will ya:

And I am sorry about you posting pics of the FD stadium turf on a thread NOT about the FD.

the picture is posted to highlight the simalarities of the two products, and the superiority of the color scheme being used by the Fargo Dome Authority. This speaks to the question of why the Alerus is spending 1 million dollars more for their turf which is an identical product to the Fargo Dome turf.
If you understood what you read you would know that.
Again, to highlight the issues surrounding the turf at the alerus center in Grand Forks, here is the fargo turf:
Here is the alerus turf. the alerus is owned by the city of Grand Forks but wants to have UND, a state institution, kick in some cost sharing dollars.

In response to the kind reader, the "Buffalo" is not sneezing. The logo is harkening back to the good old days when the NDSU BISON played outside, as most universities still do. Now the NDSU BISON play in a new, modern, indoor facility, the insanely popular Fabulous Fargo Dome, the #1 FCS Football venue in the country, where conditions are always perfect for the game.
What you are thinking is a sneez is actually steam from the snorting Bison depicted in the image.

Other schools like NDSU can have their logo on their home turf. Here take a look at the NDSU field:
Im sure other schools have their logo on their turf too

Thanks for the clarification. A sneezing buffalo would be kind of silly. I thought it was supposed to be comical, like having "monarchs" as a mascot.

Why are you a Bison fan? By the userbar title under your avatar you seem to be a Souix Lover. It is just strange.

How many times has the Fargodome Sales Tax been extended to pay for other things? At least this money is going to the Arena, not a flood diversion that doesn't exist.
