CS Players of the Week

Post by CatMom »

Didn't we used to post candidates for POTW here? I mean just pointing out top performers each week? What happened to doing that?

Fine, Goddammit, I'll do it myself

from TSN/Fathead

Offense I Austin Minefee RB Southern Utah
Minefee had a do-it-all type of day in the Thunderbirds' 35-28 victory against Weber State. Minefee collected 286 all-purpose yards (88 rushing, 86 receiving, 112 returns) and scoring three touchdowns, and helped Southern Utah climb back from a 21-10 deficit early in the third quarter. The senior scored the Thunderbirds' final three touchdowns, catching a 25-yard pass from Brad Sorensen and rushing for 2- and 1-yard scores. To top it all off, Minefee added two long kick returns and a safety when he tackled Weber State cornerback Jarrett Gooden in the end zone after an interception.

Offense II Nicholas Edwards WR Eastern Washington
Edwards helped the defending FCS champions keep their playoff hopes alive with an 11-catch, 192-yard, four-touchdown performance in a 42-35, Big Sky win against Sacramento State. Catching touchdown passes of 16, 39 and 22 yards in the fourth quarter, Edwards helped the Eagles rally from a 28-13 deficit. The junior added a 17-yard reception in overtime that set up Jordan Talley's game-winning touchdown.

Defense Ryan Davis DE Bethune-Cookman
Davis was a star in Bethune-Cookman's hard-fought, 14-6 win against previously unbeaten MEAC leader Norfolk State. Recording 11 tackles, including six for a loss, Davis was a thorn in the Spartans' side all game. In addition to a game-high 3.5 sacks, Davis forced and recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter.

Special Teams Chika Madu KR/CB Nicholls State
Madu entered Saturday's game with Stephen F. Austin just 22 yards shy of becoming Nicholls State's all-time leader in kick return yards. He easily reached that mark with a school- and Southland Conference-record 304 return yards. Returning nine kicks in the contest, Madu became the first player in the FCS this season to take back a pair of kicks back for touchdowns as he found the end zone on 91- and 94-yard returns.

Freshman Terrance Franks RB Texas State
Rushing for 234 yards on 24 carries in a 38-28 loss to Southeastern Louisiana, Franks became the first running back to go over 200 yards since 2003. Franks scored on runs of 4 and 74 yards, and added a 58-yard scamper to record the two longest Texas State rushes of the season.
