I know its been awhile since ive posted on here but I visit regularly to get the scope on FCS football.
I’m thinking of taking a road trip up to Bozeman for the MSU/NAU game. The wife and I have Thursday (13th) and Friday (14th) off and were looking at taking Monday (17th) off as well and I thought there was nothing better to do with that time then check out Bobcat stadium and watch the Jacks play. Of course im gonna need some deal sweeteners to make the trip more appealing to the wife, such as things to see on the way to Bozeman.
I was wanting to know from bobcat fans: How hard are tickets to get? (Especially this close to gameday). What is there to do in the area? We have never been up that way before. I would be coming in from the Vegas area and was planning to stop and see the Great Salt lake on our first day. What part of Yellowstone is the best to see? And how far away from Bozeman is it? I know I can look all this stuff up but was looking for some insight from you guys. Any info would be helpful, even best places to stay while in Bozeman as well as eating areas.
I know it sounds a little crazy but im young (2010 grad) so im down for an adventure no matter the mileage. Hopefully everything is a go so I can have the opportunity to see some country ive never seen before.

If you go through Yellowstone, go through Old Faithful area and then through West yellowstone. Lots of animals around there, and tons of geysers/mud pots. It takes about 2 hours to get from Old Faithful to Bozeman. From West to Bozeman you will go through Big Sky, one of the best ski hills in America. In bozeman, stop in at the Museum Of the Rockies, it is about 3 blocks from the Stadium.

Yellowstone isn't too far away from Bozeman, only about an hour and a half or so. http://www.chicohotsprings.com/ is a pretty good time on a weekend as well, it's about 45 minutes or so east of Bozeman, and just north of Yellowstone.

There are 4 breweries you could visit near Bozeman; two in Bozeman (406 Brewing, and Bozeman Brewing), and one in Belgrade (10 minutes away) and one in Livingston (40 minutes away). Livingston is also home of the "Rib and Chip House", worth the trip to Livingston alone.

As far as restaurants in Bozeman, I could make a pretty big list.

I had a great time in Bozeman @ the MSU-NAU game in 2007. All the Bozeman time I spent while living in Montana was either for NAU sporting events or hiking south and east of town.

Gameday experience:
I wandered around the tailgate on a brutally cold and windy day. Was offered grub and a brew by a nice MSU booster couple before game and visited with them for about a half hour. I found the vibe to be generally welcoming and friendly. Probably too cold to be a downright horse's ass to anyone that day. Even enjoyed a rare Lumberjacks football win in the state of Montana. I'm guessing it's not as windy now with the south endzone closed in due to the stadium addition?

Restaurants:
I can vouch for the Pickle Barrel, McKenzie River Pizza, Burger Bob's and (particularly) Dave's Sushi being worth the trip. Dave's is my first choice every time I'm in Bozeman. Heard good things about the steakhouse in Livingston but never made it there. NAU's football/basketball announcers always talk about that being a trip highlight.

Bars:
Saw a good concert in 2007 or 2008 @ The Filling Station. Quirky venue but a bit out of the way on the northeast side of town. I vaguely remember having drinks at The Zebra Lounge downtown. Bozeman Brewing puts out some tasty grog.

Sweetening the deal for your wife:
If she likes museums, I remember The Museum of the Rockies (south side of MSU's campus?) being pretty interesting. The drive south of Bozeman to and around Yellowstone N.P. is beautiful. On a good note, you won't have to deal with the herds of rv's and tourists at this time of year. On a bad note, it just may snow on you and be cold by mid-October. If you're willing to get an early start and return a bit late one day, you can cover a lot of the park on a day trip. If outdoors activities are you thing then there is fishing, hiking, mountain biking, camping, etc. in every direction.

MSU's fan site (bobcatnation) seems to be welcoming as long as you're not pounding the U of M drum and wearing maroon-colored glasses. Post over on their site and see what you hear back.

Head up I-15 into Idaho and turn off and head toward rexburg (hwy 20 if my memory serves me) enter the park through West Yellowstone hit old faithful and loop over toward cooke city to enter Montana through Paradise Valley aka Chico, (some of the most beatiful country Montana has to offer).

Lodging easy fairly easy to come by and i think the grandtree offers a package of football tickets and lodging, at least they use to. Make the trip 18 miles east of Bozeman to Manhattan to check out Sir Scott's Oasis 22oz New york steak for 20 bucks top 3 steakhouse in MT imho, and for breakfast make your way to Main street overeasy for a "grizzly killer" breakfast. Enjoy visiting Montana just remember, we are full, but i hear North Dakota is real nice!
