Currently Texas State is adding new luxury boxes and premium seating to the stadium. This addition will be added above the current press box. Ground breaking has occurred and is expected to finish in time for the 2009 season.
Here is an exert from the Austin American Statesman regarding future expansion plans.
Teis hopes that in 2010 — the Board of Regents and the economy willing — the sale of 20-year bonds will fund the next phase of stadium improvements, a north end zone complex that will add 9,000 to 10,000 seats to push capacity to approximately 25,000. The expansion plan targets a final goal of 40,000 seats .
The north end complex will cost $25 million to $30 million, Teis said, and revenue from the luxury suites and premium seating will be used to pay down the debt on the bonds.
Thats the reason for the expansion. It'll be interesting to see if we can fill it. The expansion is expected to happen in phases. If the NCAA rejects our bid to move up or if we can't find a conference that will except us, then I expect the seat total to expand to around 25,000.
Texas St could fill 25,000 with another good playoff run.
Rumor has it that the WAC is our best shot at getting a bid. The travel costs and visiting team attendance would suck. The positive is that the WAC is one of the better non BCS conferences.
I would like to see us get in CUSA just because it would put us in with Houston, SMU, Rice, UTEP, and Tulane. Those schools would be able to travel better. But then the conference is not as good.
I'm just happy the stadium is getting a much needed face lift because the school is trying to move up.
First time I saw the archit. rendering. Very nicely done...a real good example of what an FCS stadium SHOULD be! No multi-use football/soccer/lacrosse/track & field "facility". No fieldhouse/abortion clinic/yoga-spiritual studies building for later conversion into a vegan physiology studies department.
Just football.
Kudos to Texas State.

This will all be done in stages/phases. They are only working Phase I-a now, which is the west side press boxes and suites. Construction began after our last home game. Interior code upgrades, etc first.
1 - current stadium. I believe this pic is from the Cal Poly playoff game in 2005.

2 - artist rendition of west side with press and suites. The stands are already there, as are elevators that were upgraded/added in 2006(I think it was)
