Some FCS POTW Awards

Terrence Franks Named FCS Independent Player of the Week

San Marcos, Texas - College Sports Madness has named freshman running back Terrence Franks as their FCS Independent Player of the Week after he rushed for 74 yards and three touchdowns in Texas State's 38-28 victory over Tarleton State last Saturday night.

Texas State's Will Johnson and Ben Follis Named Kicker and Punter Of The Week

http://www.txstatebobcats.com/...0920111619.aspx

This marks the third straight week that Follis has been the top punter among FCS Independent and Southland Conference teams after he averaged 46.5 yards on four punts against Tarleton State. He averaged 47.9 yards on seven punts at Wyoming and 57.3 yards per punt at Texas Tech. He had a career-long 71 yard punt for a touchback at Wyoming after kicking a 68-yard punt at Texas Tech. He also recorded a 55-yard punt for another touchback against the Red Raiders and a 53 yard punt versus Tarleton State.

I've had a soft spot for Follis, who has played all 4 years(true freshman) he has been at TXST....and never missed a game. Even after suffering a concussion on a (successful) fake punt attempt last year. His numbers were never impressive but I always defended him in that I knew he could kill a ball but Wright used a rugby style formation that forced him to hurry everything. Wright also liked to employ sideline punts. It was a waste of this kids talent. So it's not like he all of a sudden got a bionic leg or anything

As for the new PK, the kid will be on an NFL roster in a few years. We have him for 4.

It's an odd year for these kind of things. The SLC won't recognize our guys (obviously), nor does the FCS as a whole. The NCAA stats pages has us under FBS. It really is, unfortunately, a non-year for the players.

The Southland Conference won't recognize Texas State players, because they are not in the Southland Conference. No surprise.

There are plenty of weekly awards though here through http://www.collegefootballperformance.com and players from schools like Georgia State and Fordham and Texas State are eligible even if they are not for conference awards.

The NCAA's stat books keep Texas State at the bottom of the FBS, so they are there.

As for the kicker, good to hear he has a lot of talent and will hopefully see his name called on Sundays.

I don't see anything on NFL Draft Scout yet, so maybe he needs more reps still.

Follis (punter) is a senior and he is listed in the top 20 active FBS punters (avg per) this year. He was in the top FCS punters before. I seriously believe he'd be in the top 5 in either division if Wright (previous coach) had not used that stupid rugby style punting formation. In 3 games he's already upped his ypp by almost 10 yds over last year and nearly 7 for his career. As it is, he would have to work his way up to get any kind of look see from an NFL team because scouts just won't come to a TXST to look at a punter.

That said. Johnson (PK) is a true freshman. He has only been in 3 games so he has plenty of time to build a resume for NFL Draft Scout.

BIg Souths offensive and defensive players of the week both came from Chuck South. QB Gerald Dixon and DE Will Hunt.
