There has never been one put on the list before but I listed Bevins just in case it happens this year. He is highly decorated so I didn't want to leave him out, regardless if he is listed or not.bandl wrote:Aren't all players except kickers considered?SmallCollegeFBFan wrote:Below is a look at the names whom I believe will be under heavy consideration for the awards this year.

FS Mike McElroy will play his way on to the Buchanan list from what I saw this spring.

Liberty the only team with 2. Add in the 1 other considered. We are very talented this year.

Matt and Zach Johnson from EWU both have the potential to put some Buchanon worthy stats. The SUU QB is in the same boat.

Not really because of what he has done but because of the type of season I would expect that he will have.

I think SUU's QB Sorensen should be on the preseason list, and for sure will make the list by season's end.

LB Jake Trantin from W&M will work his way into the discussion. After missing 2010, everyone seems to have forgotten him.

Haven't forgotten him. Just waiting to see how he looks before I put him on the list. Did not see him in spring ball so I will wait to see how he looks the first couple weeks. He's a guy who will quickly be added to the list if he does well.Tribe4SF wrote:LB Jake Trantin from W&M will work his way into the discussion. I was just talking about the Payton award. I should have stated that. And yes that is considered cherry-picking the stats.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:Liberty: 2 listed, 1 consideredjcmanson wrote:

Re: Projected Walter Payton and Buck Buchanan Award Watch Li
Glad to know he's still on your radar. He was his old self after a few days of spring ball. A little bigger, and still instinctive, and lightening quick to the point of attack. By week three he was clearly in charge of the defense.SmallCollegeFBFan wrote:Haven't forgotten him. Just waiting to see how he looks before I put him on the list. Washaun Ealey Georgia RB transfer to Jackonsville St. is the early Payton favorite. Also, Mike Paulus should be on the list

Re: Projected Walter Payton and Buck Buchanan Award Watch Li
Tavoy Moore is my pic for the Walter Payton and A.J. Storms for the Buck Buchanan
Tavoy Moore: 2010 Played in all 11 games for the Bengals at receiver and running back … had one of the most successful seasons for ISU at any position, accumulating 2034 all-purpose yards … at running back, Moore racked up 252 yards on 62 carries, averaging roughly 4.1 yards per carry … at receiver, he caught 34 passes for 421 yards and three touchdowns … Moore made a big name for himself on special teams, where he had two touchdowns on both kick returns and punt returns … Moore became the first player in Big Sky history to return a kickoff and punt return back for a touchdown in the same game in two different contests … against Northern Colorado he set a school record for all-purpose yards with 318 as he had a 91-yard kickoff return and an 81-yard punt return for a touchdown. Then, against Montana he broke his own record with 323 all-purpose yards, including a 100-yard kickoff and an 84-yard punt return … had 203 all-purpose yards to start the season versus Montana-Western, earning him 2010 D-1 FCS Performer of the Week as a punt and kick returner … also earned Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week after the record-setting game against Northern Colorado, as well as the National Kick Off Returner and National Punt Returner of the Week by the 2010 D-1 FCS Performers of the Week … Moore caught a touchdown pass against Georgia, accounting for the only points by the Bengals on the day … earned First Team All-Conference for his spectacular season … was also named first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association as well as the AP All-American team … finished his surplus of awards by being named to the third-team Sports Network All-American team
A.J. Storms : 2010 Played in all 11 games at outside linebacker … led the Bengals in tackles (146) for the season, including 63 unassisted tackles and 83 assisted tackles … tied for the team lead in tackles for loss with 10 … recorded three pass break ups … led the nation and Big Sky Conference in tackles … first-team All-Big Sky Conference … named to The Sports Network/Fathead.com 2010 Division I FCS All-American second-team … had double digit tackles in all but three games … recorded a career-high of 20 tackles at Utah State and Montana … had 16 tackles at Georgia and 18 at Eastern Washington … was a Team Captain.

A special teams standout is not going to win the Payton. 673 offensive yards is nothing to write home about.
