Best All Time FCS QB
OK, so it's the dead time of the year for college sport's fans and MLB sucks. So, for debate, who is the most oustanding QB (during college) of this list and why?

I think PSU was D2 when Lomax was there but it works anyway and I'm not even sure about what I'm saying there anyway.Appaholic wrote:OK, so it's the dead time of the year for college sport's fans and MLB sucks. So, for debate, who is the most oustanding QB (during college) of this list and why?
This is gonna be a total homer driven vote (rightfully so in this case) because although I saw Armanti and recognize his greatness I could not say he tops Dave Dickenson.
DD & AE being 1 &1a is the best I could muster.
Re: Best All Time FCS QB
Went with the two-time champion and Payton winner
DD only got one of each and those Griz teams were freaking loaded

AE gets my vote.
Flacco only beat Towson once. He shouldn't even be be on this list.

Look my man, I watched every one of those games Dave played in and saying those Griz teams were loaded in comparison to ASU is just not true. There was an absolute shitload of small receivers and dbacks out there.Silenoz wrote:Went with the two-time champion and Payton winner

Jamie Martin from Weber probably deserves to be on the list, but probably not the top of the list.
I think I would have to vote for Steve McNair as #1. That guy had some freakish yardage stats. 14,946 passing and 16,283 total for his career.

Re: Best All Time FCS QB
Most of Dickenson's games he played the first and maybe the second series of the 2nd 1/2 and then he was out. You very rarely saw him in the 4th quarter. Bert Wilberger got a lot of playing time in 93 & 94 because of the #'s Dave would put up in the first half of a game.
Points/minute played
Yards/minute played
Dave was untouchable.

I would have to put it as a toss-up between McNair and DD. Both were incredible (not to say the others weren't).
Homer vote goes to DD.

Agreed - Flacco isn't in the top 3 of best UD QB's of all time, so I don't see how he could be on this list.89Hen wrote:FWIW, I think I might choose Gannon before Flacco, but DD ahead of either.
I go with DD as well. McNair was great, but DD did it against better competition.
FWIW, Tracy Ham should be on that list (as well as Gannon, of course). And since I don't see MJ around here, where the heck is the love for Mike Buck?????

Wells, Douglass, Erhardt, Baker, etc. Not a huge group besides Erhardt, but talent in spadesUrsus A. I still watch those games almost yearly
Would I say ASU teams are more loaded now? Yes, but there is much more talent (parity) in FCS/I-AA now too.

Re: Best All Time FCS QB
That's the only thing that keeps me from saying McNair was the best, I saw him play many times. But those Alcorn teams weren't that great (never won more than 8 games). Although the 8 team SWAC was miles better than the current version, the post season record shows that they still weren't up to par. I love Mac but he probably had more leeway and opportunity to freelance than any QB on this list, including AE.GannonFan wrote:Agreed - Flacco isn't in the top 3 of best UD QB's of all time, so I don't see how he could be on this list.89Hen wrote:FWIW, I think I might choose Gannon before Flacco, but DD ahead of either.

Dave did more with less talent.
BUT - I've never been more nervous than watching AE calmly walk out onto the field before the last drive at Wash-Griz in 09.

I'm sure you're referring to Mike (Erhardt) and those are all very good players there ain't a doubt about that.Silenoz wrote:Wells, Douglass, Ernhardt, Baker, etc. Not a huge group besides Ernhardt, but talent in spadesUrsus A. There were a whole lot more passes, screens, etc. completed to let them do their jobs because of Dave. All of those guys would tell ya that DD made everyone better.
Without Dave you would not have looked upon those years as being stacked. In 1992 we had Brad Lebo, the big pro style QB running that exact same offense. We started 1-5 and ended up 6-5 then Dave comes in the next year and uses much the same team to come oh so close to knocking off Oregon at home the week after performing the biggest comeback in NCAA history in the first game and then going undefeated in a conference with Idaho & Boise in it.
1994 was as loaded if not more so than 1995 and look what happened there.with Dave not available in the semi final. Had Dave not gotten hurt in that Boise game I really think it would have been back to back NC's.

I think when you face a guy like that you can never be comfortable. In 95 I was the Kibbie Dome and we were down pretty good at the 1/2. I was getting some refreshments and started talking to one of their Radio/TV guy. The guy said that he had never been so nervous sitting on a 30 pt. lead in his life.

Not sure I would go that far. I assume you are putting Komlo and Nagy ahead of him?GannonFan wrote:Agreed - Flacco isn't in the top 3 of best UD QB's of all time
The one stat (actually two combined into one) that almost locks him as #2 for me is...
Passes Attempted (career)
Joe Flacco - 938
Matt Nay - 895
Bill Vergantino - 859
Rich Gannon - 845
Sonny Riccio - 759
Jeff Komlo - 686
Andy Hall - 684
Leo Hamlet - 593
Interceptions (career)
Bill Vergantino - 56
Jeff Komlo - 43
Matt Nagy - 35
Rick Scully - 34
Dave Sierer - 34
Rich Gannon - 32
BJ Webster - 28
Bill Zwaan - 27
Leo Hamlet - 27
Frank Linzenbold - 25
Don Miller - 24
Shit, Flacco's not even in the record book, you have to go look up his individual stats...
Joe Flacco - 15
I take it back, Flacco was greater than Gannon.

If there are two names I will always get wrong (I even had a freaking Erhardt jersey with his name on it), it's him and Hiedelberg (sic)
Re: Best All Time FCS QB
Well how about the fact that the 1996 team is often considered the greatest Griz team of all-time, riding on a stellar offense, sans-Dave?
Jeez, I complement our receivers of the time (Douglass was considered our greatest up until about a year ago) but no-one wants to agree with me

Re: Best All Time FCS QB
Steve Walker from NDSU has to be considered. He had the misfortune to play during the NDSU transition so was unable to lead the BISON to a national championship, although he did lead them to the #1 tanking two years running. He also engineered some of the greatest come backs in FCS history and was simply unshakeable leading the Herd. He is certainly a stand out in BISON LORE and earned the respect of the entire division.
Dear Lord, We come before you and humbly ask you to grant our prayer for a veil of protection to be placed over Donald Trump. May your will be done. In Jesus name we pray. Amen

It's not "the best I could do", but I voted before I read the replies, and I want my vote back!
As much as it pains me to say it, Ursus was spot on; "DD & AE being 1 &1a..."! Not trying to be a homer, I voted AE as #1...thus relegating, Super Dave to the 1a slot.
I feel like such a fuckin' traitor...
