Big Sky

CWU 32-35 EWU (in Seattle, WA)
PORTST 41-33 UCD
WOU 17-31 SAC
IDST 17-38 USU
NOCO 47-50 WEB (4OT)
NAU 20-41 ASU
UMT 33-35 CP
MTST 22-23 WSU

  • NConf Record: 3-4
    Overall: 8-8

    vs. FCS: 1-1
    Overall: 1-1

Best Performance: (#20) Weber St. 50, Northern Colorado 47 (4OT) - Thanks to 4 missed field goals from NoCo, the Wildcats overcome a 6-0 turnover advantage.

Worst Performance: (#17) Eastern Washington 35, (DII) Central Washington 32 - Well, the Griz went on to the title game after a 3 point win over Central in 2008. This Wildcat team, however, doesn't seem quite as good as that one.

Most Surprising Result: (#1) Montana 33, Cal Poly 35 - The Griz throw for 416 yards, but turnovers & punting—typical Montana fortes—go quite badly.

Southland

SOARK 17-31 TXST
ALB 14-59 SFA

UTM 10-24 SELA
SAM 19-7 NWST

NICH 14-49 WMU

  • NConf Record: 4-3
    Overall: 6-9

    vs. FCS: 3-1

Worst Performance: Texas St. 31, (DII) Southern Arkansas 17 - Four turnovers make the Bobcats sweat a bit against a mediocre DII.

Most Surprising Result: Central Arkansas 37, (#23) Eastern Illinois 7 - Bears end a 5-game losing streak to FCS competition.

Missouri Valley

SDKST 3-26 UD
NDSU 9-16 UNI
MIZST 24-48 KSU
ILST 3-37 NW
WIU 21-31 PUR
SIU 3-35 IL

    vs. FCS: 2-0
    Overall: 2-0

Best Performance: (#14) Northern Iowa 16, (#21) North Dakota St. - Panthers outrush the Bison, 262 to minus-40, and get a crazy 11 sacks.

Worst Performance: (#9) South Dakota St. 3, (#16) Delaware 26 - Jackrabbits lose the ground game, 257 yards to 25.

Most Surprising Result: Western Illinois 21, (FBS) Purdue 31 - How does an FCS team that went 1-10 last year put a scare into a Big Ten school?

OVC

UCA 37-7 EIU
UTC 17-21 JAXST
EKU 13-23 UL
SEMO 30-17 MUR
JSU 33-26 TSU (in Memphis, TN)
TTU 7-62 TCU

    Overall: 2-4

Best Performance: (#5) Jacksonville St. 21, Tennessee-Chattanooga 17 - Gamecocks out to make sure last year's probationary season won't be remembered as a tragic missed opportunity.

Worst Performance: (#23) Eastern Illinois 7, Central Arkansas 37 - Panthers fumble 6 times and commit 5 total turnovers.

Most Surprising Result: (#23) Eastern Illinois 7, Central Arkansas 37 - Panthers suffer their worst I-AA/FCS regular season loss in 6 years.

Patriot League

NOVA 35-0 LEH
GTOWN 28-24 LAF
BUCK 3-14 MARIST
COLG 15-45 FUR
URI 25-27 FORD
HC 7-31 UMASS

  • NConf Record: 1-4
    Overall: 5-6

    vs. FCS: 1-4
    Overall: 5-6

Best Performance: Fordham 27, Rhode Island 25 - Fordham moves to 6-4 in The Battle of the Rams.

Worst Performance: Lafayette 24, Georgetown 28 - Despite nearly doubling the Hoyas in yardage, the Leopards lose to Georgetown for the first time since 2003.

Most Surprising Result: (#25) Colgate 15, Furman 45 - Things don't look good for the Patriot League when their preseason favorite loses to an unranked opponent like this.

Tomorrow: the rest of the playoff conferences.

I have to agree with this. Our O sucked eggs. They left our D in 3 bad situations. The D actually only gave up 1 of those scores. The ST weren't just great either. They fumbled one punt around the 15 and allowed a fake to go for 48 yards that set up a TD. It was awful and....yeah an INT got past our offense, by a fucking 260 lb DE, for a TD. It was really ugly to watch.

And, as I said, I'm not as impressed with the freshman QB as some

Going to have to agree with this one, both teams lit up the scoreboards however 4 missed field goals cost the Bears the game and 6 turnovers? That just seems to be the norm at WSU with Higgins at the helm :D However still i think the best performance should maybe go to Portland State. They beat a decent Aggie team and broke a 6 game losing streak dating back from last year. Once again Mvem great job, really enjoy reading this every week :thumb:

Also just a heads up you didnt put the NDSU score for the NDSU vs UNI game on your post.

Nice breakdown! Very informative. I like your format. You should do it for all of the conferences.

You're right, PSU played a pretty good game. The new Pistol formation seems to work. But it was obvious that both teams were playing a lot of young new personnel. Our new kickoff returner averaged about 20 yards - but he fumbled 3 out of the 4 times he ran. Our new TE, who graduated last year after four years starring as a forward on the basketball team, actually caught a pass. We stuffed the Davis run, but they put up impressive passing yards. I don't want to think about next week's game against the University of Oregon. A bye?

Agreed.

Either Portland or NAU had the best performance, IMHO

Venus may have meant "best" in terms of "best drama." If so, that game certainly qualifies, though it would have had competition from the CP-UM game.

No. Weber beat a decent NoCo team. I don't think Davis is decent this year, probably the worst team in the Great West. NAU did scare Arizona State for a while, but ASU isn't very good this year and I don't think they're any better than a top-tier FCS team.

It was far from error-free, but the Wildcats still had the best game in the Big Sky this week.

best goes to wsu defense....47 allowed points aint great but when you have to make up for your team turning it over 6 to none thats pretty damn good!

wsu has 65 fresh/soph, 70% of team. lookin good for the future. 12 seniors.

i think we are the sky's youngest team.

Most Surprising Result: Gardner-Webb 38, (FBS) Akron 37 (OT) - This isn't a shocker, but the Bulldogs clearly improved from their DII struggles last week.

Most Surprising Result: NC Central 27, (DII) Winston-Salem St. 34 - Despite being DII again, the WSSU Rams have already doubled their MEAC win total from a year ago.

I wholeheartedly agree, that was the worst Southern performance I've known in my 33 years on earth, that loss really undid all the work the staff did trying to win back fans in Baton Rouge. After hearing some of the statements from the team everybody needs their asses kicked.
