GoASU TV

Post by AppStateAlumQC »

I hated to make this a thread topic but I knew some of my App people on here might be able to help. I was thinking about purchasing a year's subscription to GoASUTV because of my hectic work schedule I doubt I will be able to make it to all the home games like I usually do. Before I sign up I was wondering what exactly you get? Are all games, both home and away broadcasted? The website is pretty vague about what you get so I wanted to see if I could get some feedback from Mountaineer fans who might already use this.

I bought the Elon game last year and used S-video out from the laptop to my TV. It was decent quality and I'd do it again. I'm not sure about the full season deal (home and away) because I was able to see a lot of games in person last year. I'd say buy a game, see what you think, and make a decision on the rest of the season then.

it's $60 for a year-long subscription. There's also a monthly option as well.

I don't have a subscription (thinking about it this year), but I've read that others have been satisfied. Almost all athletic events can be viewed and there's also an on demand type feature. Some of the content that used to be available for free is now part of the package.

You'll get all of the home football games. I'm not sure about every away game, but I believe some of them were available last year over the opponent's video feed.

I think it was $9.95 for a single game last season if I remember correctly. Beats the crap out of hitting "refresh" 1000 times on Yahoo to get the score.

I hear ya.

I'm usually content listening to DJ and Brownie over the radio. I remember the Elon game being on SportSouth last year and I caught some of the other away games on the Channel Surfing website.

I subscribed the last couple of years for football and basketball season and it's definitely worth it, imo.

Two years ago the quality wasn't very good at all... but, last year they made HUGE improvements and depending on how many games you can make it to it's easily worth it... especially if they improve on it further.

All the games are online that aren't otherwise televised. The away games are the other team's radio guys and video feed... which kinda sucks. You can mute the video and stream DJ and Brownie's audio but it ends up being out of sync with the video... so, it's kinda annoying. Last year during the offseason they had archive classic Appalachian football games that they put up periodically.. Furman 2005, JMU 2007, and a Wake Forest game (1998 I think...) are the ones I remember. Not sure if they're doing that again this offseason. Also, during the season they leave up the games in the archive for a couple of weeks... so you can go back and rewatch it or watch if for the first time if you were at the game.

My goal for this season is to figure out how to rip the video and audio so I can save copies.

If your browser is FireFox I'd give the Video DownloadHelper add-on a try.

I didn't want to be the douchebag to say it, but I will.

You need a different job so you can make the games. Get your priorities straight.

I would add that you also get many baseball, and other sporting events. The quality has gotten better every year with the addition of time/score strip and better video and audio. The first football game every year seams to had some kind of issue but hopefully they will get it right this year. I personally think it is an unbelieveable value for the price.

Channelsurfing.net is pretty good if you're only going to miss a few games. I'm at all the Elon games, so I don't know what the availability of games is. Obviously App would be on there more than Elon would, but I did find an Elon vs. Furman basketball game on it last year, so I'm assuming App games would be on. Since a number of App games are on SportSouth, they will almost definitely be on channel surfing. Also sometimes, the games won't show up on the site until a few minutes before kickoff.
