2011 Delaware Schedule

Post by jd of de »

A blurb from The News Journal @ Kevin Tresolini

"Look for Delaware State to likely fill the blank on Delaware’s 2011 football schedule created by South Dakota State’s exodus, making 2010 the last season in the near future the Hens and Hornets won’t play."

2011 NC Schedule
Saturday – September 3rd @Navy
Saturday – September 10th West Chester Last game - no future contracts
Saturday – September 17th Delaware State *Date Not Confirmed*

Oh, let DSU wait one more year. Are any SoCon teams looking for a game?

Well, on the bright side, maybe 2011 will be the last year we get two dud games in a row - West Chester would be the favorite versus Del St in most years.

Could be a 3-0 start. If you weren't preseason ranked(as if) in the polls, you'll be top ten going into week 4.

So SoDakSt backed out of the home game in that series? That seems odd to me.

No, the agreement was previously a 3 game series with the first two games (2010 and 2011) being in Newark, with the 3rd game being in Brookings (in 2012). By mutual agreement, UD and SDSU shortened it last year to just a single game series this year in 2010. So a game in Newark and a game in Brookings got cut.

If nothing else, the prospect of not renewing the contract with West Chester after 2011 is exciting. Essentially, DelState becomes the West Chester game, giving us a countable D-1 win, and freeing us to play an occasional FBS game and a winnable FCS OOC (or winnable + challenging FCS OOC in the years we don't have an FBS). I believe KC stated a preference for no FBS games though after the latest Navy deal is over.

The current UDAF drive would even take precedence over KC's preferences - UD wants as much money as possible and the only way to play an FBS game (in leiu of a home game) and make money is to play a top level, BCS school, like a Michigan or Florida or people like that. Playing Navy is actually a money-losing endeavor - we make more off of a home game than going to Annapolis.

Sadly, I think we'll see more lower-level NEC teams (not the good ones) and teams like that going forward as home OOC teams.

I wouldn't mind being the Big 11's bitch if it kept the UDAF requirements from getting too exorbitant. Plus, it would be cool to see the Hens play in Happy Valley or against the team with the similar helmets.

I agree - maybe not every year (if we're still FCS - if we're FBS then screw that, let's play them every year), but I'd certainly take an every other year approach to play in some nice venues. Besides, I'm kinda tired of Annapolis already - great town, and I love eating at Cantlers, but a little variety in scheduling would be better.

I have yet to see any evidence of this so called "greatness" that WCU possesses that would lead me to believe that they would CONSISTENTLY beat DSU on a yearly basis...:coffee:

Oh, I didn't say they would consistently beat DSU - I think it would be a pretty even series when all is said and done. But until you guys stop ducking them we'll never know, will we????

We get into trouble when we don't play DSU and we wouldn't want Pearlman mad at us again...

I like playing DSU. Last year was very competitive at the end and it's good for the state.
