Not another FBS transfer thread

Post by OSBF »

Well, OK, it is another FBS transfer thread, but with a different twist.

How do you feel about taking transfers that got kicked off the team/out of school at the FBS level?

So far I think we've taken 4 for next year, 2 from Michigan State, and 1 each from Purdue and Wisconsin.

I'm all for guys getting a second chance, but 4 "projects" in 1 year makes me a little nervous.

Well it certainly can go very wrong (Greg Coleman), or very right (Perilloux [sp]), so I'm all for teams taking that chance if they have a staff and administration that won't put up with any crap.

Depends on the circumstances, I guess. It worked out well for Montana with J.D. Quinn, who dropped down from Oklahoma after getting booted for accepting money for work he didn't perform. Not the smartest move in the world on his part, but at least he wasn't robbing liquor stores or stealing candy from babies. To the best of my knowledge, he didn't get into any trouble in Missoula.

The Michigan State guys were kicked off the week before their bowl game. There was an incident in one of the dorms. Guy was there visiting his girlfriend, got into it with another kid that lived in the dorm. He went back to the apartment, got his buddies, went back to the dorm and gave the guy a tune-up.

Bothers me to bring that big of a project to our campus.

Not sure of the circumstances of the Purdue or Wisconsin kids. The Purdue guy is a senior, we got him for a year.

I think it is a big risk for a coach to take on that many in one season. I firmly believe in second chances. Most of the time those players go on with out further trouble, but not always. When it doesn't go well with the occasional player if coaches deal with it properly everyone is usually supportive. If you have multiple problems with these second chance players, then people aren't as supportive. If a coach is willing to take on several risky players at once, they run the risk of loosing support of the boosters if things go south with a few of them. Loosing booster support=loosing coaching job.

In communities like Missoula and Bozeman people get pretty upset when the University brings in "thugs" that bring "big city" type of crime into the community.

Coach Wright pretty much doesn't want them.

I'm begining to wonder if our new coach just wants to win as quickly as he can so he can punch his ticket onward and upward. That's the way it was with the last coach we had that actually accomplished something, first offer, see ya, I'm outta here.

Pretty ambitious/risky to take 4 in 1 season.

Northwestern St. picked up a running back from Nebraska last year. He and his poor attitude are both gone!!

Took another one over the weekend, WR from Wisconsin. That's 5 players brought into the program in one year that were kicked off FBS teams/kicked out of school.

This is really making me wonder about Coach Spack.

Sure hope he did his homework on these guys or we could have a real genuine mess by spring ball.
