Your perfect FCS QB.

Post by green&gold75 »

Wondering if any of the more seasoned posters would entertain this---As your FCS school's new head football coach, you are recruiting for an incoming QB. Among the following qualities (or any more you would like to add) which would you value most, which would you be most ready to sacrifice-- knowing no candidate is going to be perfect.

1-PASSING ACCURACY
2-ARM STRENGTH
3-QUICK RELEASE
4-RUNNING ABILITY
5-POCKET MOBILITY-MAINTAINS DOWNFIELD FOCUS.
6-STATURE/STRENGTH
7-INTELLIGENCE-MAKES GOOD DECISIONS.
8-LEADERSHIP QUALITIES
9TOUGHNESS/DURABILITY

May not consider parents' ability to make huge donation to program!

Actually I was going to say that he just graduated from Holy Cross.......but.........same point.

But to answer the question I rank the qualities as follows:

7-INTELLIGENCE-MAKES GOOD DECISIONS.
8-LEADERSHIP QUALITIES
9TOUGHNESS/DURABILITY
1-PASSING ACCURACY
3-QUICK RELEASE
5-POCKET MOBILITY-MAINTAINS DOWNFIELD FOCUS.
4-RUNNING ABILITY
2-ARM STRENGTH
6-STATURE/STRENGTH

This is from the perspective of an FCS team in the Northeast that will undoubedtly play 2 or 3 games in bitter cold and rain.

Hell, right now I'd like to see our QB display 5 of the 9....any five will do... :ohno:

Is it safe to say Albany didn't run the spread or read option back in the DF era?

We did three things when I was the QB:

1. hand the ball off;
2. run the midline/speed/triple option; and
3. hand the ball off.

I am the school record holder for handoffs in a season. :ugeek:

personally, 15-0 would do

You will get a look at one with everything but 1 & 6 in Norfolk come September. But I expect accuracy to improve next year. With a quick attack offense, he doesn't need #5.

1-7 are all very close, 8-9 are just bonuses. But give me a guy who knows where to go with the ball and gets it out of his hand quickly, and I'll be happy.

Aaahhh, the quest for the famed fabled unicorn.......
1. Strengths 1 - 9 you look for in the highlite tapes.
2. If resources and scheduling allows, you send an assistant to see the kid play in person.
3. You meet with the h.s. coaches to determine if the kid is coachable, grades are where they need to be, and parents aren't difficult.
4. Finally, you meet the kid and try to determine if he will fit in the culture within your program.

Accuracy & Arm strenght are the eye candy that catches everyone's attention. The rest you try to make fit.
