A Merry GRIZ-mas Poem

I did not write this, but was forwarded it by an ex-Griz player....not sure where he got it!

T'was the week before playoffs
And all through the state,
Griz Nation was ready
We knew it’d be great!

First up South Dakota
Testing our fate,
Three quarters in
They were startin’ to skate!

TV’s were turned off,
The aisles – they were full,
Mariani looked up and said
“I think that’s bull!”

The rock he did catch
98 yards he went,
Seven straight scores
and the Jack’s they were spent.

A comeback for the ages
Giving confidence that rages
Some records were broken
The Grizzlies are smokin’!

The Lumberjacks came callin’
A mighty axe they were haulin’
Their number one offense
Was stopped and a stallin’.

No scoring was made
51 to zero
In our house that day
The defense the hero.

In North Carolina
The Mountaineers held a dream
But in good old Montana
The Griz reign supreme.

They had the numbers
And a man named Armanti
The Griz had each other
and a mascot named Monte.

The Griz they struck first
The score it looked easy
Twas not to be so
The crowd - it got queasy.

On the ground it was Reynolds
He spread out their defense
Selle found receivers
The crowd was less tense.

Thompson went hunting
A quarry he found
The hit of the day
Smashed into the ground.

The defense again
To the rescue they came
A goal line refusal
Thanks to Trumaine.

2 yards and knockin’
North end zone a’ rockin’
Armanti’s passes
Our boys were a’ blockin’.

2 seconds to go
Just yards from the tie
The ball's in the air
Their dream it did die.

Santa’s gift for Nova
This Championship Bowl
Is a Griz-wrapped bag
Of Whoop-Ass coal!

On Opperud , Verlanic
And don’t forget Horn
On Hillesland, on Dyke
Their d- line is torn.

Mariani and Palmer
Gratton and Pfahler
Will all make the highlights
In an ESPN trailer.

The defense it seems
They all play as one
The Wildcats they’ll skin
Just for some fun.

Under Friday night lights
Our fans they desire
The Grizzlies will find
Another trophy to admire.

We’re ready and willing
And can’t hardly wait
The players, the coaches
This game will be great.

You’ve practiced, you’ve sweated,
You’ve worked the whole season
The Championship Game
Is the one single reason.

So Santa is here
To offer a toast
To the Montana Grizzlies
The team we love most.

in this season of light
