Mike London to UVA???
Listening to talk radio about projected openings. Assumption is that Al Groh will be fired. Leading candidates are London and Al Golden according to that talking head.
Re: Mike London to UVA???
I'd heard London earlier this football season when UVA was definitely in the tank... has ties there, former coach, etc.

Re: Mike London to UVA???
And they can pay him substantially less than the $2 million a year Groh gets.
Shoot they can probably pay him $750 a year and I bet he'd take it.

Re: Mike London to UVA???
in my view the "best coach" in all of the fcs
! richmond was lucky to have him this long
.
Re: Mike London to UVA???
I tailgated with some UVA people at the game last weekend and they have all heard the same rumor.
The only impediment I see to this is whether they want one of Groh's old assistants to take over for him. As far as London is concerned, I think he jumps ship now or is at UR for the long haul. He might have a rough couple of years coming up with some departures, but should be going strong once he gets through those (if they're rough at all).

If I were UVA's AD Mike London would be on the top of my list.
I also hope UVA hires him so maybe App can pick off a couple of their committments for the 2010 class... especially the 6'7 225 pound TE from Charlotte.

London will either go to UVA or Maryland

Re: Mike London to UVA???
I am not so sure about either UVA or UM. From everything I have read Maryland has a "coach in waiting", offensive coordinator James Franklin, ready to take over if Ralph retires, which I think he will. Now at UVA, there seems to be a sizable amount of alums that would like a "bigger" name, someone with more experience, and someone with no ties to the current staff. Now London does not fit any of these categories. I think UVA would do well to hire Mike, but we will see. I asked UR's president about it last week, and he said Coach London is very happy, but if someone offers him up over $1M, it will be hard to say no. And there is no way UR can match anywhere near that money, even though our current compensation package is up there with the best of FCS. So basically I think we will wait and see. And as to struggling next year, it could happen, but of UR's 16 ALL-CAA team members, 8 are coming back.

Re: Mike London to UVA???
London should be given a shot and anywhere near $1 mill would get him to leave. Would recruit the same area and he is a proven winner.

Getting out of UR now is the smartest move. There is no point in staying because Old Dominion will out-recruit Richmond forever more.mcveyrl wrote: As far as London is concerned, I think he jumps ship now or is at UR for the long haul. Re: Mike London to UVA???
PLEASE... UR and ODU in general are not looking for the same type of student athlete. Just because both schools are in VA does not mean they are necessarily going after many of the same recruits. Of course there will be a few kids that the schools overlap on, but in general it is W&M and UR that battle for similar kids, and a few battles between JMU and UR. Now I do forsee many battles between JMU and ODU for kids..
Re: Mike London to UVA???
Mike London makes the most sense for UVa. He's a great coach, has ties to the school, and helps UVa contribute to NCAA goals for recruitment of minority head coaches.

Re: Mike London to UVA???
I heard people (UVA people and the local newspaper) talking about Boise St's Peterson when I was in Virginia this past week.

Re: Mike London to UVA???
It would be interesting to see what Petersen could do against four or five ranked teams every year instead of a conference full of garbage plus a couple of MAC teams and Oregon.JMU DJ wrote:I heard people (UVA people and the local newspaper) talking about Boise St's Peterson when I was in Virginia this past week.

Yeah, I don't quite get that either. That would be a bad move from him to leave Boise for Virginia.MrTitleist wrote:Would UVA be a step up from Boise??

Re: Mike London to UVA???
It really depends on if he wants to have the possibility of playing for a national championship. Granted, UVa historically blows, but at least if they put together an undefeated season somehow, they'd have a better shot of making the BCS title game than Boise, which goes undefeated a lot, and finishes mid top 10 in the polls and gets sent to an also-ran bowl every year.DJH wrote:Yeah, I don't quite get that either. Disagree. I think his chances of playing in a mythical national title game are STILL better at Boise than in Charlottesville.93henfan wrote:It really depends on if he wants to have the possibility of playing for a national championship. Plus, the WAC is a better league than the ACC
Re: Mike London to UVA???
Petersen is apparently upset with Boise St because they won't pay his coaches what he thinks they deserve, at UVA he could get that. I don't see Petersen making the move to UVA (who does have a decent football history, just not recently... ), most of the people I spoke with brought it up in jest.
